'Largest Library In The World': Say What???

If the US is 'the world' then yes, the Library of Congress would be the 'largest in the world', however, if the world is actually THE WORLD, then the British Library is the largest.

Why on earth would the writers say such a thing knowing that audiences can look up the truth in moments? Were they hoping that we would just take their boast as fact?

They were talking about square footage not the number of books/cataloged items.

Hmmmmmm, okay, I'll let them off this time, with a warning, though: Don't try and own stuff that is dubious.
There, I feel better now.

In terms of physical size, staff size, budget and annual number of visitors, the U.S. Library of Congress is largest. The British Library has about 10 million more volumes; however, many of these are single parchments, etc., so the actual number of pages in the British Library is smaller than in the Library of Congress.

if you want to be really technical, the Smithsonian is technically an archival library and museum. At least that is what they told me when I interned there....and that place is freaking huge.

The only books worth reading are those written in the deep, passionate waters of life.

What a cool job to have. I love history and museums. I used to live in the northern VA area. Love all of the historical sites in VA and MD. I'm a little further up north now in Jersey just outside of Philly. I've done some construction work at the Franklin Institute, which of course is tied into the movie. I've been back in the achieve/storage section seeing stuff that never gets on display. It's really neat for history lovers.

It was said by a character. Characters don't have to be factually correct. 😀
