Read the book instead

The movie wasn't bad, but the book is much, much better. Have a hanky ready at times, because you will need it.

Joan and her second husband, Jim, have been married for nearly 20 years, and Joy is grown, as is Joan's stepson from her first husband's previous marriage.

In the book, the first husband had sinus cancer which was misdiagnosed as allergies until it spread to his brain and caused drastic personality changes. In an attempt to cure it, he had a cheekbone, one eye, and part of his nose removed, and when the bandages were removed, he told her he was glad she was blind because if she knew what he looked like, she wouldn't love him any more. That certainly wasn't true!
