Help in identifying a song

I need some help in identifying a song. The one I have had in the back of my mind since seeing the film was in one of the Richard Gere segments. Gere is in town during the girl's funeral. A band was playing on the stage and the singer had his face painted white. Can anyone tell me the name of the song he was singing?
