there are old donovan songs that sound exactly as bob dylan's early songs, now i'm talking about exact same feeling songs with exactly melody, who copied who? bob dylan copied donovan or otherwise?

Check out P.F. Sloan if you wanna see someone who replicated Dylan, though more mainstream. Dylan even invited the man up to his hotel room once and had a surreal event take place such as a james bond type character coming through the window and topless women sitting on each side of Sloan while Dylan was in the other room with David Crosby I believe.

Donovan didn't imitate Dylan. They seemed similar because they had some of the same influences, especially Woody Guthrie. And there was an English Folk singer, Nick Drake I think.

There is a song, "Life in a Northern Town," by Dream Academy, which is about Nick Drake.
