Main problem with this film

This is generally A Good Film; the directing, writing and acting (especially Tony Leung!!) are all superb. However....I have one MAJOR problem with this film. And that is the subject matter. Bob Dylan? Seriously?! This guy hasn't had a hit since "When You Were Mine" and, by his own admission, has based his whole carear on Bruce Springsteen's. Wouldn't The Boss have been a better candidate for this sort of biopic? Mr Dylan is really only celebrated for his influence on artists like Muddy Guthrie, Woody Waters, Funny Boy Williamson, and Robert Longson - none of whom have been remembered much beyond the 1950s. So why the 2 hour movie dedicated to him? Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Garth Brooks or Alison Krauss would have been better candidates for this movie.

I don't think two hours is too long. It's based on him, but it's practically six different films. So more like 6x 20min short films. - This IS Bob Dylan, we are talking about? I doubt the fans would've appreciated it any shorter, or if it negated incorporating his later career. Mind you then end gets slow for me.

Isn't that what this film is all about? "*beep* everyone, they think they know me". That's basically Dylan's career. He goes, artistically, the opposite direction to what people think he should do. And good reason, cause they don't know him.

I don't know about the Boss, but I think the experimental mush-mash of genre, characters and style of this film that works so well for Dylan, could work for Springsteen. Though I agree artists like Dylan, The Beatles and so on are over-rated (even though they're all ready good artists).

Can't speak for Springsteen, would like to get introduced to his music through a good biopic, though I don't think Springsteen fans would like this type of experimental direction, (unless they would?).

Also would be interested to see one of Allison Krauss, Garth Brooks, and maybe Nirvana or Pixies.

I'd like to see a Tom Waits one

You may not like him but he did make a substantial contribution to the music industry and it was about what he had to say that was so important. Plus alot of the people you listed are no where near how famous Bob Dylan is. I'm not even a huge fan of Bob Dylan, but I can still acknowledge is contributions. Plus I feel that the Boss is highly overrated and I dont really want to see that, So really to each thier own.

It's obvious the OP is a Dylan nut making a joke.

Alright, that was quite funny. Not sure what the Tony Leung line was about, though...?

B. Dylan is an effing legend. You're being close minded. You have no idea how great an influence Dylan has been. He is like one the greatest song writers of all time.

Of all time!

Funny - I have to say I'm pretty surprised that some folks actually took your post seriously. Kudos!
