Why does he still end up with his mother?

Okay I just saw this movie on You Tube and I would think that after him getting sick towards the end of the movie, that he would at least go back to foster care or something and try to live a normal life. I mean what she was doing to him was awful most of the time and biggest problem was he missed all those years of going to school. Also it said that his Mom was picked up while running naked in the street and put in a mental hospital. How did she escape from there? Then she got him and drove off with him like nothing happened. It doesn't make much sense to me because I was expecting a different ending.

Like to know what you think of all this.

Because, after all, she was his mother, and humans have a sick, unexplainable attraction to their mothers.

Using the books as reference, Jeremiah not only loved his mother (in a love/hate way), he was obsessed with her and idolised her. He wanted to emulate her every move and look like her. He wanted to be her. His warped upbringing caused him to grow and develop with skewed ideals and morals. The books give a lot of insight into how he turned out this way. (not for the faint hearted though)

The grandmother says, to Jeremiah, that it's funny because his mother (Sarah) is in the same hospital having been found on a freeway naked. Sarah must find out where Jeremiah is and then pitches up at his room.

As to why he would end up with his mother again because the bond is stronger than any sense of good, bad, better, worse etc. It's been found that children from abusive backgrounds are more loyal to their family than those not abused.

I thought she kidnapped him at the end. I thought that he was supposed to go back to the grandparents house. The Grandma is talking, and saying something about how she had ruined him within the six months she had him.

I also thought she had kidnapped him as well. I cant imagine anyone would just let her walk out of a hospital with a sick kid, even if she is his mother.

That part could very well be his fantasy.
