All of this actually happned.

It's a real life story which makes it more shocking. Great movie and so underrated.

No it's not. The author claimed it was, but it was all a hoax. There is a whole movie about it.

reply

Nonsense. I've met the author and can verify that this is a genuine story.

reply

Well then you sir, are a liar.

What is the name of this movie? I would be really interested in seeing it, sounds fascinating :) Posting quota is in place. You are limited from posting again for a short while:

This story is fiction. These kinds of stories do happen to real children all the time, unfortunately, but this one was created in a damaged mind from a very damaged person. It's still a good story. But it was a lie that got out of hand.

Laura Albert is the author. She created the character of J.T. Leroy and then went so far as to have a relative pose as J.T. Leroy in public and then signed contracts and created a company in his name. Which garnered her a trial and conviction for fraud in 2007.

There are two documentaries out there:
The Cult of J.T. Leroy and
Author: The J.T. Leroy Story

Here is also a link to an article in The Guardian which can provide significantly more details:

I hope that helps.
