53rd and 3rd

53rd and 3rd is one of my favorite Ramones songs, and several years ago I made a pilgrimage to that corner, but don't think I was in the right place. It's Midtown East, the "Turtle Bay" section of New York. I walked there from the hotel I was staying at (Beekman Tower) and it didn't at all look like the sort of place where Dee Dee and other rent boys would be hanging out. of course, this is 30-40 years after the fact.

Was I in the right place?
