Earl de Darkwood

Duz anyone think the first alien that the evil manager, Earl de Darkwood, enslaves is meant to be Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the famous composer? Because the resemblance is pretty good, and the idea that it may have happened is hardly far-fetched. I mean, he was pretty much forced into it as I recall.

Indeed it does look like Mozart: child prodigy seated in front of a piano/harpsichord couldn't be anyone else, really?

Perhaps most disturbing is the implication that Earl de Darkwood has been responsible for finding and transforming all the great musical geniuses of human history, except Daft Punk, of course, who are shown to be contemporary with Crescendolls in a lovely piece of self-insertion.

Eh? Talk about reading too much into a film with no dialogue, great film incidentally...

Really? Are there any more famous ones in there I should recognise, or should be able to identify as being like someone else? Some looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place them.

I saw a blonde haired guitar player wich looked like Kurt Cobain (and lets not get to the point were we think he suicided because he found out he was being used please). And few others seemed like some other muscians, i think David Bowie was somewhere on that scene (wich makes total sense, because of bowies personality and his rattle as being Ziggy Stardust the man from mars. I mean does anyone remember people painting there heads red and white in the 70's just to look like him?).

And that piano playing kid might be Mozart, but i dont think they gave gold records at his time. Oh and those anyone notice the allusion that gold records (or million sellers) can turn into something evil? i found that pretty nice.

wasnt the kid who was in the flashback the earl?
i have a feeling he was, and the lookaliky was his dad. They both happen to appear similar.

brilliant film, really kicks ass.

reply

Well I think they meant to imply this was Mozart, but we also see the kid being pushed into the abyss (and killed?) and we all know Mozart died in his 30s ^.^;;. But I don't think they're trying to be all too accurate there. So yes, I believe this was supposed to be Mozart. I also thought I saw Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, all singers that died young. Or at least their look-a-likes. What they meant to imply is that the reason why so many musicians die untimely and worn out is because of de Darkwood's doing.

my firend commented to me about that being mozart...its nice to see all these minds thinking alike.....great minds think alike
anyway
i also saw what looked like Kenny G and Aretha Franklin
i will have to review that whole section and see what my eye may catch

A review of it in Sight and Sound confrimed that indeed Mozart and Jimi Hendrix made appearances, although the reviewer never mentioned the others. When I get the DVd back off my mate at college I'll b able to take a better look.

If Mozart died in an age of 30 years, it wouldn't be him. As one scene in the movie shows, he was walking into the fire as a child.

reply

Further to the above, it was probably supposed to be Mozart. Darkwood made him from a small alien, so after a few years he would have had to get rid of him and replace him with a larger alien to be teenage Mozart!

I like posting in forums about movies.

reply

yea but also the alein he took mustve been playing piano before that so not exactly forced but having musical talent all along

reply

does anyone know the whole list of artists who were portrayed in the film? I'd really appreciate it.
