film em all

god bless cliff, but whats this? Metallica ENCOURAGING people to make their own recordings of gigs? ho hum, how the world has changed..

reply

Hasn't it! The last time I went to see them I wasn't even inspired to stand up from my seat until "Whiplash" such was their pomposity!

Metallica lost touch a long time ago!

The Black Album spelled the end, the beginning of the end being started perhaps by the tragic loss of Cliff (respect to Jason Newstead all the same, And Justice For All - a good album, but still with Cliff's influence in their hearts I believe).

I have never seen this film, but I think I may track it down.

I still remember a girl I knew, crying at school, holding a copy of Kerrang! with the news that Cliff had died.

I miss the old Metallica, the Metallica who made such an effort not to become too commercial, but times do change, sometimes sadly!

RIP Cliff

So what your saying is you want Metallica to be just like Slayer. To not change. To not try new things. Here is the problem. You were and probably are one of those fans who when Metallica got to big to fit in your back pocket you got very angry because they were getting popular and immediately called them sellouts. Look Metallica does what they want when they want and however they want. They do not let anybody dictate how they make their music. I mean look as much as I like Iron Maiden they sound the same on every record. It is like they have no change in what they do. This is why I like Metallica. I can listen to Kill Em All and then listen to Load and have two totally different styles of music I can listen to. It is funny that after all these years you still managed to try to slag a band such as them. Like whenever you see the word Metallica you immediately go Sellouts. Sellouts. Sellouts. I mean how in the world did they sell out. Just because they became famous does not mean they sold out. I mean look Led Zeppelin was famous did they sell out no. Pink Floyd is famous. Did they sell out no. Your theory is wrong and incorrect. If you want another Justice or another Master. Just pop them in and listen to them. Nobody is stopping you!

LOOK

kill em all = GREAT
Ride the lightnin = GREAT
Master of Puppets = GREAT
Justice for All = OK

REST OF IT = S H I T !!

once Cliff died they lost all sense of Reality (and musical taste), and became what they were preaching against = egotistical rock stars regardless of the style of music they were playing. But if your not gonna play "Metal" anymore and lets face it Load was not metal ! DONT CALL YOUR BAND "METALLICA" !!!

Poor Cliff must be turning in his grave right now.

I concur with all of those. I couldn't even listen to St. Anger; if I was one of those prisoners they played to at San Quentin when they filmed the St. Anger video- and I don't care if it's prison- I would've brought out the tomatoes to start chuckin at their lost-their-nerves pussies. Some Kind of Monster is one of the most mixed-bag kind of films ever made, as you're watching these usually talented and tight musicians acting like the worst bunch of *beep* - wads in rock history, almost making *beep* KISS look respectable (you know something's strange when Dave Mustaine pops up and HE is the most interesting part of the whole *beep* movie). Gimme the Cliff em all doc anyday, ANYTHING from the 80s, and I'm even a big fan of the Black album. Load and Re-load, so-so, liked them more in middle school when I had no real taste in metal. Now it's, to pull a cliche, beating a dead horse. It would be a true holier-than-hell miracle if their next album is impressive.

I beg to differ. I don't know about the other guys but I'm not complaining about the main changes. There are some things I would like to correct you on. 1) When you say "They do whatever they want", that is true in the past but apparently they have been sucking up to the public to get famous. So that's a good reason to call them sellouts. 2) Iron Maiden DOESN'T sound the same one every record. Has their style remained the same? Yes! Every body has there own style. If you stay true to yourself, you maintain that style, no matter how many line-up changes you have, no matter how many guitar sounds you have, or different drumming techniques you have, the style can still be maintained. Iced Earth is a good example. Iced Earth has had MANY line-up changes over time but et their style still remains. You're right that just because they went famous they sold out but I call them sellouts because they changed their whole style to a common style. They went from playing Godly riffs to Amatuer riffs, that's a shame! What ticked me off about Metallica today is that they threw away all their talent just for the money. To me, that isn't a very good thing. I'm not asking them to make another one a lot like "Ride the Lighting" or "Master of Puppets" and Cliff is not to blame. They have the ability to make better stuff than those albums, they threw it away! I do want Metallica to be like Slayer, not in style, not in keeping line-ups, but in keeping their independance. Therefore, Metallica is a sellout because they gave up their independance that they once had and sucked up to the people.

R.I.P Cliff

I believe metallica can be summed up this way

METALLICA ERA

Kill Em All=pure raw energy...my second favourite metallica album, anesthesia :O

Ride The Lightening=more mature...a phenomenally amazing album...not only my favourite metal album...my favourite album ever

Master Of Puppets=absolutly amazing...musically at there best...im more of a raw fan of there work...orions bass solo always makes me think. 3rd best album IMO

And Justice for all=yeah im not really a big fan of it to be honest...love one and a couple of others...but it is most definatly noticed with the loss of cliff.

ALTERNICA ERA...sort of nothing special

Black=mmm not a fan really. i can tolerate it...just. my friend of misery sounds too similar to anesthesia etc

Load=of crap

Reload=frizbee

NUTALLICA ERA...Nu metal system of a down/korn sound

St anger=R.I.P metallica

Like I said, Metallica didn't turn into a band that just cares about fans. How stupid can you people be? After the black album, they made Load which sold far less and they lost tons of fans because of it? Then they did Reload which was just like it, after seeing how many people hated Load!!!! This is not caring only about fans! It is doing what they wanted to do!

Linkin Park and Korn have a lot of awesome songs btw

Master of Puppets is the greatest album ever.

Who cares what is thrash and what is speed metal? They are vague terms. I know this guy that thinks there are like 20 variations of metal (power, speed, death, thrash, black, etc. etc.) and thinks it's clear cut who is in which one. What a waste of energy to think about that crap.

reply

i care about thrash and speed metal !! i grew up on it, it was a mix of Punk and Hardcore's speed / attitude and metal's heaviness and technicality...its hardly the same as glam metal now is it?? i believe that some labels are over the top but there is definately a need to label Thrash and Speed metal, it represents the coming togethor of 2 distinct subcultures and styles of music.

Listen, moron. This is why Metallica are not sell outs. Look at how many fans they lost after cutting their hair and doing Load. Then after seeing the negative reaction to it, they did Reload, which was almost exactly like it. Not exactly diluting your music just to be more popular, is it? Hammer is a sell out. He makes all this preachy music and is popular. Then he goes down and gangster rap is big. He tries to make a gangster rap album. That bombs. So then he becomes a preacher. What a loser!
