Best Cirque du Soleils?

I introduced a good friend of mine to Cirque du Soleil with clips of "Varekai" on DVD. We've decided to have a get together soon in tribute of Cirque du Soleil and watch a bunch of them. We have Varekai and Corteo on DVD, but I have'nt really been exposed to any others. So, any suggestions?

(I've posted this on, like, all of the otehr Cirque boards. I bet I won't get a reply on any of them, ha ha ha...)

Quidam's really good - the child singer is amazing.
Dralion's got some beautiful costumes and I really like the light bulb ballet thing they have.

Varekai's still my favorite out of all the ones I've seen. haha, in fact I'm watching it on DVD right now.

....wow, you have both on dvd and you plan to buy more for a Cirque marathon? Then you can probably afford to go to a live show. If you can, then do that... The dvd's are really good but it still doesn't compare to seeing this live.

reply

Yeah-- saw Corteo live, and I mgiht be gonig to see Love (hopefully! But probably not.)
But yeah, the DVDs really aren't as good... Especially with the stupid camera angles! Like, at teh finale of Varekai, when they're on the big swingie things, tehre's a shot where the camera is on the swing. Now, it sounds clever, but all you see is the guy's butt.
...Not that there was anything wrong with that, of course. :D
But really, I would've just liked to have watched it from a decent angle! Cirque is artistic enough. The camera angles don't need to make a statement.

I would also recommend La Nouba and Alegria...both are excellent shows, the singers in both shows are fantastic, but different. The singer in La Nouba has this really rich soul-ish voice while the singers in Alegria have this raspy rich sound to their voices...and not to forget the acts either, they both have some really amzing stunts. I would have to say though that Varekai is my favorite show ever! I went and saw it like three times I loved it so much. And the performers are really nice, especially the twins, they have been helping me out with a project and I owe them so much. They're truely the greatest guys ever.lol, hope this helps.

P.S. Has anyoen seen Delirium? I have tickets to go see it and the twins said it was good, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen it? thanks!

reply

You KNOW the twins?! Holy crap. You luckyluckylucky person, you. I'm madly in lvoe with them after watching a Fire Within and Varekai. They're gorgeous, man, nad I'd have to say they're the most talented.
I'm getting Alegria off Netflix--Olga's in that one too, right? She's got mad skill. I'm glad to hear your views on the singer--they definitely don't get enough publicity. I absolutely adore the music in Corteo and Varekai (especially during the multiple trapese act in Varekai--very pretty.)
Talking about A Fire Within--do they ever show the main guy, that little white birdie guy thing? Wow, that was one eloquent sentence. Anyway, I was really interested in seeing him, but they haven't seen to show him yet (I'm only on disk 1 of the DVDs.)
However, the twins definitely, definitely make up for him not being there. :D

Haha, Andi and Kev are great guys...too bad they aren't younger...and too bad Kevs gay(I was heart broken when he told me, but I'm sure I wasn't the only one.)
Olga is in Quidam I believe, not Alegria. I LOVE the singers of Cirque, the show wouldn't be the same without them. I actually just auditioned for the siger in Varekaii, so hopefully all goes well and right now they are curently casting for a singer for Alegria as well. The song during the trapeze act is one of my favorites as well, Hireyo Kiero is the title I believe...I don't really think it matters that much since none of the words are in any existing language. haha.
When you speak of the white birdie thing, do you mean Icarus? The performer was Anton, and I don't believe he was on the dvd. He is a funny guy too, although he's kinda shy. He actually just left the show to go home to Russia to perfom in is fathers circus for a bit since he has been doing Varekai for 7 years and was ready for something new. He is amazingly talented just like the twins though....too bad they are getting ready to leave the show too, I guess though they hae bee there for 7 years as well!:(
But if you want to see Anton performing as a child you should watch Saltimbanco, he did that show ith his mom and dad when he was like 7. He was sooo adorbale! haha

reply

Of course he's gay. Everyone I fall for is gay. I'm bad luck.
Yes--Olga is in Quidam, you're right. I rented it through netflix, though, and was sadly disappointed. It seemed more like a Pink Floyd acid trip kinda deal. And, truthfully, it was a little boring--which is a lot coming from me. I lvoe Cirque du Soleil. Lots and lots and lots and lots.
Yeah, I meant Icarus (that post was before I watched "Fire Within"), and they actually did show Anton--but only for about three minutes in one show! I was very disappinted... And a little baffled. They focused on Raquel and Stella, whose act was pretty but a bit of a filelr, instead of Anton, the star of the show? And why focus on Gareth and Ashley, when they were cut in the end? That show was so poorly done. And the twins were not in it nearly enough. But I'm a little biased there, aren't I?
Yeah, that song during the trapese act was really beautiful (wow, one subject to another. I am all over the place tonight) was probably my favorite Cirque song. The music in Corteo was also done very well, and the theme for Fire Within (which I think was in Alegria--correct?) was good, too. Always in my head.

all of the cirque shows are better live.
i've seen four live and most of them on dvd.
with the live shows you can see more. on the dvds they tend to focus on one thing but not the rest of the stage

reply

Yes, but I can't readily just rent a live show of Cirque du Soleil.

The twins are leaving Varekai? What a loss for the show.

reply

That was what they said two years ago, but in a suprising turn of events they told me that they signed on for another couple years...apperently cirque offered them a lot more money, haha, go figure! I mean those two really make the show. Without them it would be missing one of the coolest acts, and let's face it...they would have lost massive eye candy! gah, why does Kev have to be gay! Andi is kinda in a relationship, but he's fairly mum about it, even to his friends. I guess we won't meet her unless they get married. I hear from him she's a model though...she is sooooo lucky!
