I have a question, spoiler alert!!!

Why did Roman kill Casey, his ex-girlfriend?
He didn't have any valid motivation to do so, it's not like he was doing something she could blackmail him with and it's not like she was going to show up again after she saw him with Jessica, and even so, what difference would that make....it looks like he just killed her for fun...I mean seriously, the guy was trying to build himself a new life going through all the trouble of impersonating his brother, supposedly for the rest of his life, and then he just goes and kills his ex for no reason risking to get caught and go to jail for the rest of his life instead....doesn't make the slightest sense....
Does anybody agree?

Yep, agreed. He kills her just so the scriptwriters can make double sure that everyone watching understood that it is really Roman's own "soul" residing in his body, and that under the ploy, he is still his psycho old self; arguably, that is also the cheapest and most disappointing way this story could turn out based on the initial setting.

Also, the scene showing Roman's girlfriend's body is so brief and useless, it looks like it was plugged in at the last minute, as the whole plot suffered major modifications through filming. The alternate ending is slightly more satisfying and appears closer to the original intent.

Agreed. If you watch the deleted scenes, there's one of a little boy finding Casey's body at the shore. Why they cut that out, who knows.

i think they didn't want the story to get more complex than it already was, like involving criminal stuff etc. etc., they must've been running out of time to finish the plot.

I think what happened was they were going for an R rating when shooting and had to cut a lot of the things to keep it PG-13.

I agree but Casey knew the truth and so he felt she was a threat. Also it does seem a bit dumb to risk everything especially once he had Jess convinced but because he is Roman he only knew how to react violently. Also I have a feeling that maybe he thought Casey wouldn't leave them alone (which seems odd because I think she probably would've). He was already a little off I mean pretending to be his own brother and all.

Buster:I don’t want no part of your tight-ass country-club, you freak bitch!

Except that Casey did say "no matter how you treat me, I can't change the way I feel about you", so she would most likely be coming back and try to win Roman back. I think Roman saw her as a big threat and felt he couldn't risk her spilling his secret.
