Dont even touch the legends of Satyajit Ray

None expect him to do a good job. This is one more rubbish created by Gautam Ghosh. Nothing other than the good photography is worth a mention in this film. In my opinion, the so-called art films also follow a formula like its main stream counterpart. The creation of Satyajit Ray obviously should be kept out of this rule because he created good movies not art films like those of Mrinal Sen/Gautam Ghosh/Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Few days ago, the main theme of art-film was all about romanticizing of naxalite movement or its about un-employment or the poverty of the middle class/lower middle class. Now it has changed to put one bollywood star in any character. I fail to understand why Tabbu has to be there in this movie for that unimpressive role. Tabbu is no doubt a good actress and she proved herself in different occasions but one good actor needs a good director and good story after all. The movie ends with a boring preaching by a school teacher, which makes the movie more terrible. The proximity of Gautam Ghosh with the Alimuddin street may have brought him a reputation as an good director but in reality he is worse than the likes of Swapan Saha, who are actually honest to what they are doing, not hypocrite like Gautam Ghosh. I don’t believe in restrictions but Satyajit Ray’s creation should not be allowed to be humiliated like this in future.

It is not the question "touching" an old work per se. A sequel like this can be made "if" possible. For example, as a sequel of "The Hustler", made in 1961 by Robert Rossen, "The Color of Money" was made by Scorsese in 1986, with same main character of Fast Eddie (Paul Newman) with addition of new character Vincent (Tom Cruise) and his girlfriend. But that sequel was a far better work than Ghosh's work here (that also had its own problems though!).

I do agree, that at present, Bengali directors "play it safe" by having at least one Bollywood artist nowadays - no matter how much it really fits the script. May be for financial reason.

But what is of most concern, is the ordinary level of work which is created. The script for "Abar Aranye" is just not a finished work, its incomplete, without any purpose, any sense. Why not we just show human life and heart, rather that taking a political orientation every now and then.

Finally, when will Bengali directors concentrate on "Bengali" issues, rather than talking - quite fruitlessly - on international issues. 9/11, CIA... we do not need to react to them. We better focus on the very deterioration of Bengal and Bengali economy, culture and everything, which now produces junk like "Abar Aranye". However, be it Netaji, or be it Namesake (by Bengali author Jhumpa Lahiri), movies on them are made by non-Bengali directors!
