Great movie!

I really enjoyed the movie. Much of the architecture in Halifax looks very much the same as it does today, so it was interesting to see buildings that I pass by everyday used as backdrops. I thought that it was a very touching movie and very well done. The special effects were fantastic.

Which part? The part where the ships ran into each other? Or the part where they pulled apart and the sparks started the munitions? Just because Titanic was the first big blockbuster movie (complete with special effects) about a sea disaster doesn't mean anything was ripped off- there have been MANY sea disasters and I see only the most basic of similarities between the two.

Both are true stories, but I hope to God that this one doesn't get exploited and fanaticized to the level that Titanic did.

I visited Halifax in 1992 and was amazed to learn of the Halifax Explosion. I was raised in the US, but my mom was Canadian and I just can't believe that I had never heard of this tragedy. Upon my return from this trip I asked her about it because she would have been a youngster growing up in Ontario when it occurred. She really didn't recall much other than a "Pennies for Halifax" drive. I have to believe that if this had occurred in the US or just about anywhere else, it would have been covered in history courses.

The comments about TITANIC are interesting, too. The posters probably don't realize that many of the victims of that disaster rest in a cemetery in Halifax. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax houses a number of Titanic artifacts, including a deck chair (which I confess spooked me out).

Halifax is a lovely city - I encourage you to visit!
