How is it so amazing?

I am extremely intrested in this type of film as I myself make similar ones. But can anyone who knows lots about film (specifically green screens and croma keying) tell me how they did the section where there was no skateboard? I know the how thing about croma keying out certain colors but I thought you could only do this with camera filming a still, not moving. It facinates me greatly and I would apreciate it if someone would respond with knowledge.

I was wondering the same. It's obvious from the DVD if you look at the raw footage (without the boards removed) or even take a glimpse at the bucket full of green decks on the back of the box that they've done this by chroma keying out the green, but I was under the same impression that this was done with stills as well.

The process used to chroma key the boards is called "Motion Control". In breif here is what happens..... The cinematographer shoots a scene with a camera attached to a computerized crane.... The computer maps the movements of the first pass(the scene with the riders and chroma boards).... then with the motion programmed the camera shoots a second pass sans riders..... voila, you have a exact replica of your first sequence..... layer the two scenes and key out your boards..... the CG artists are the ones who really do the killer job..... watch that whole scene again and check out the shadows..... they've all been done in with CG..... foot and body shadows under boards...... Spike is truley an amazing director in all respects.....

if you watch the credits there is a scene that shows the green boards they used.

it would take a long ass time to edit also cause they even leave in the shadows.
