The Music.....

I don't see any comments about the music in this film, so I have to mention the beautiful and haunting score by Mr. James Newton Howard, and violin soloist Hilary Hahn. This is really what I liked most about the film. If you watch it again listen close, it really is good and adds greatly to the mood of the film.
I did like The Village, although I thought some of the dialog was a bit too drawn out. By the way, it was only recently that I noticed a young Jesse Eisenberg in the background in many of the scenes! I don't think he had any lines to say.

But the premier movie music composers of today, in my opinion, are James Newton Howard, John Williams, Howard Shore, Alan Silvestri and Ennio Morricone.
Amazingly talented people, such as these, can make any movie.... truly memorable!

The score is excellent. I bought the soundtrack and the entire cd is great.
My favorite tracks are "rituals" and "those we don't speak of". Although the violin portion of this latter one, you know when Lucious and Ivy run in slow motion towards the basement when one of those-we-don't-speak-of arrives, is very low in volume for some reason.

Jesse Eisenberg is the one who shouts: "Mr. Walker!" after finding Lucious in his house, in a big moment in the movie.

I'll be good I swear... I'll never see a movie ever again.

You forgot to mention Hans Zimmer.

Hans Zimmer...definitely! I think of "Beyond Rangoon" in particular.

Also should include Michal Lorenc, ...don't know much about him, but loved his music in the film "300 Mil do Nieba" (300 Miles to Heaven) 1989, Poland
(available on YouTube)

And several all time greats, no longer with us:
John Barry (1933-2011) - "Dances With Wolves", one of my all time favorite scores.

Miklos Rozsa (1907-1995), "Ben-Hur" 1959, a masterpiece!

I watched this recently and noticed Eisenberg too! He didn't have any real dialogue, but he spoke a little when his character was playing the game to prove his bravery by standing with his back to the woods at night.

"Those We Don't Speak Of" is fantastic. Probably cemented its Oscar nomination fate. It starts off with a bang, grows intense until it stops and then a beautifully melancholy/emotional whirlwind of orchestra. It's a great soundtrack.

This is the only movie soundtrack I own and it moves me each time I listen to it. Absolutely beautiful! My favorite song is The Gravel Road. I never tire of listening to it.

The soundtrack for this film has been one of my favorites since it came out. It caused me to look into the work of James Newton Howard and discover more of his work. He is extremely resourceful and can write in practically any style. I was amazed to find he had written one of the greatest classic Western soundtracks for Wyatt Earp. I have a couple hundred soundtracks but The Village remains a favorite and is still frequently played. There's nothing else quite like it.
