Doesn't make sense

The whole concept doesn't make sense to me. What were the Elders plans for when the younger generation wanted to escape the village? Or explore? Certainly, no matter how much mind control you do, the thirst for adventure is ingrained in others. Were they planning to kill those that escaped? I guess their theory is that life would be so good, there would be no need to, but I don't buy that. No matter how much fear there is, the quest for knowledge is something we are born with.

It is a flawed experiment to say the least. Eventually they'll run out of space. Ivy had a very good experience with Park Ranger Kevin so eventually she will tell them that there are some decent people out there.

Do you think he wants some cheese?

Not if her father told her not to. He let her in on the whole thing before she left, and surely impressed upon her the need to continue the ruse.

I see Ivy's 'odyssey' as the creation of mythology, complete with heroic battles against the creature.

If anything, it would serve to intensify the bonds within the community.

True but you have to look at the future eventually the elders will die an the new generation will take over.An some of them may very well say to hell with this lol especially after there told the truth which the new leaders would have to be.No matter what this plan couldnt last

I didn't like how by the end all the second generation even Ivy were left completely believing the lie because Noah in his insanity inadvertently convinced her that the monsters were real (even though she's been told they weren't) and since she's blind she doesn't actually see the outside world, and that the elders are able to use this to keep the lie going.

From a movie making stand point what is the point of implying that the status quo is restored and this stupid plan the elders have of keeping all their kids ignorant of the outside world is maybe feasible after all.

It was a stupid plan. The movie should have had it all come crashing down. I felt like at the end I was supposed to think, "Oh good, the elder's idiocy isn't going to be exposed" when all I was think is "I hate these morons."

Their plan was the entire early plot structure - scaring the kids about the towns outside of their village and making them not want to explore. They made themselves seem like the only game in town.
