What about the pregnant rape scene that caused the miscarriage?

Yes, I think is the only questionable scene in the movie. I would have to think long ad far about it, but at the moment I think it wrongful, unnecessary, and uncovincing in terms of both the town and the rapist.

In any case, it is far worse than the scene under discussion.

The rape didn't cause the miscarriage, you can have sex when you're pregnant. Being beaten in the stomach caused the miscarriage.

I would think the rape and the beatings would gross you out more than that.
