Just Watch the Movie

I don't think that this movie was one in which one had to decide whether or not these people should be further punished or not for their crimes. They are in jail because they have committed horrible crimes. I also don't think this is a movie that is asking you to 'forget' the victims.

I think it is a movie was pointing out that people can evole through this opportunity offered them, into becoming more self realized/actualized human beings. THAT is the interesting aspect of this movie. Not all the immates chose to do Shakespeare, and the ones who signed up to be in the plays didn't start off being ACTORS. The one man's comment that he had thought he'd do well, because acting was about lying, finally realized that the naked truth is what makes for great acting. And that the process, not the product was the prize. (Something that great actors know)

I can think of many people who have never committed crimes but do not live their lives as fully as they could (for their sakes and their families). I think it would have helped all of us to have this kind of Shakespearan experiance at certain pivotal stages of our lives. Especially for some people who have no fathers, mothers or mentors to guide them.

Process this movie while watching it.

Very well put zolazona - I was hymn-hawing about watching this movie, half expecting to see prisoners claiming their innocence or feeling they had paid their just-dues and this was their opportunity to convince everyone they deserved freedom. But it wasn't like that at all. They just focused on how they were learning about themselves through this play. I really enjoyed the movie.
