why?

what always amazes me about these boards is that people spend a huge amount of time & energy slagging off & moaning about things they supposedly hate.
everyones entitled to their opinions but if you don't like something why leave loads of threads about it?

i personally think sex lives of the potato men was a brilliantly funny film & i think johnny vegas is a very talented actor.

loved thats its set in birmingham too - best city in the world!!!

I agree absolutely :)

Oh, apart from the Birmingham comment. Try visiting places like Bristol, Brighton, Edinburgh, Newcastle or Plymouth & you'll quickly realise that Birmingham isn't the best city in the UK let alone the World.

Nah, it's not such a bad place these days ... & it's unrecognisable to the city I went to university at 15 years ago :)

Because we're entitled to our opinion just like you are? Because it really is a free country, and if something really appalls us we're entitled to go online and see if anyone else agrees with us?

I have never seen such a load of mean-spirited rubbish in my life. The scene where the men "checked out" the assets of a female coma victim as she was lying unconscious in bed, and the scene where Johnny Vegas tells a cute little boy his dad's dead (played for laughs), were both disgusting. Since when was the exploitation of the unconscious or bereaved "funny"?

"Offensive" does not automatically equal "funny". That's what we're whingeing about.

Never heard of black humour? It might not be tasteful, but it exists just like dog turds and suicide bombers

I love your comparison of the humour of SEX LIVES OF THE POTATO MEN to dog turds - it's just the sort of simile I would have chosen myself!

if you want to shut out the bad things that exist

Surely the fact that I watched it shows that I am willing to encounter the bad things of life as well as the good? When I encounter the cinematic equivalent of a gigantic festering dog-coil on my television screen, I don't just switch off and pretend it never existed. What I do is get angry that such a weak and frankly nasty-minded script got given public money for its development.

I'm a fan of quality black humour (FARGO, SHALLOW GRAVE, VERY BAD THINGS). SEX LIVES OF THE POTATO MEN was not quality black humour. It was not quality anything. Its main message was that sex was some sort of grim, smelly torture, and we all know that's not true.

(Well, OK - I know that's not true. I can't speak for all of us on that one! )
