retro puppet master - greg sestero's first role

fyi to anyone who might happen to care about such matters:

i just noticed that 'retro puppet master,' which i believe was young greg sestero's 'break-out' role, is now streaming for free on tubi-tv.

i haven't seen this movie, but i've watched a few of the puppet master films & found some of them to be reasonably enjoyable. very uneven, some are certainly better than others naturally. i actually think the most recent one, written by s craig zahler, was really fun - that one is streaming on shudder should you be interested.

no idea what to expect with retro pm, but i'll probably give it a chance at some point this week.

Let us know what you thought of it! I'm still not sure if I should see it.😄

i'll be sure to report back!

reply

i feel confident saying you can safely skip this movie.
sestero doesn't embarrass himself - he's b-movie actor passable - but the film is very dull.

reply

Ah, what a shame. So not even a so-bad-it's-good movie?

reply

i didn't think so. i love a nice bit of trash. this was numbingly dull.

the first few pm films are kinda fun. they're all streaming on tubitv as well, and i would give one of those a shot first.

and puppet master: the littlest reich from last year was a lot of fun i thought. that one's streaming on shudder if you use that service. it was written by s craig zahler, the guy behind bone tomahawk, dragged across concrete & brawl in cell block 99, & it's definitely a cut above the usual b-grade trashy horror imo.

reply

I like the Puppet Master movies but not this one, mainly because the puppets are nowhere near as cool as the originals.

are there any in particular that you would recommend?
i've seen 'the littlest reich' as i noted above, & the first three from 1989-91. i thought the first three were all fairly entertaining. i think i'd slot the 2nd one as the best of them.

reply

4 and 5 are pretty entertaining. I wouldn’t recommend any after that.
