Hard to sit through despite being in on the joke

I read "The Disaster Artist" before watching the movie. So I expected a movie so badly written and acted that it actually becomes entertaining. But I still couldn't anticipate just how boring this movie is.
Sure it's fun to laugh at it but at the same time I really had to force myself to keep watching what with all the repetitiveness.

So people are watching this over and over again? Why are you wasting your lives?

reply

So you agree with Lisa that Johnny is boring?

reply

Yes. As is Lisa, and the rest of that cabinet of horrors.

reply

So you wish the movie had something, as Lisa says, "to make it interesting"?

reply

This is actually one of the very few bad movies I'm able to sit through. Although I fast-forward through all the sex scenes, to be honest.

Maybe pay more attention to the dialogue? Almost every sentence makes me laugh. Trying to make sense of the plot and timeline also keeps me entertained every time.

reply

The same thing happened to me the first time I watched it. I said to myself 'this isn't so bad it's good, it's just bad!' But then more and more people recommended I rewatch it and really pay attention to the lines and what happens. Then it became this whole new movie where thing go beyond not making sense, into absurdist territory. Every line or scene has at least one funny aspect to it, and Tommy is a gold mine of nonsense. Give it another shot (or two), and it may grow on you...

reply

OK I will...yet, I wasn't expecting how repetitive it is, and how much of the movie plays out in Lisa's living room...the doorbell rings...some absurd dialogue ensues...okay, "I gotta go now"...Lisa's alone...the doorbell rings...rinse and repeat.

reply

You need to see it in a theater, with all the spoon throwers.

Look- it's trying to think!
