Worth watching??

Is it worth watching? I like movies where the characters sing, and is a kate winslet fan. However, i've read mixed reviews about this movie so i'm having second thoughts.

I'd definitely recommend it, it's one of my favourite films ever. If you like films in the style of the Coen brothers, you will love this. However, if you're easily offended by dirty language, you should be warned, because practically everything Kate's character says is x-rated. Apart from that, it's an amazing film with great music!

I absolutely love the Coens, and John turturo too, but I have to say I was bored to the bone by this, but I don't like musicals except the Rocky Horror so ....

It's not like the movies, they fed us on little white lies

I agree with the comment above. I've loved Coen brothers productions, but didn't like this at all. The story is inane and the performances are unsatisfying. It is on DVD, so the investment is minimal if you're curious, but keep your expectations low.

I too have been an avid Coen Bros. fan since I accidentally saw Blood Simple in the theater all those years ago. I do understand Torturo's artistic vision here, but I don't appreciate the film, which is a shame because I love all of the actors in it.

It is a musical, yes. I guess I had to see for myself what a Coen Bros. musical would look like. In fact I've lost interest in it but I can't turn the dvd off, I suppose I'm hoping that some redeeming quality will make me feel it was worth watching.

My opinion is that it would be popular with people who are from the NY arts scene, fans of Gandolfini, or those who liked short-lived tv musical dramas (like CopRock).

Anyway, I hope this helps you decide.

Absolutely. It's as crude and vulgar as raw sewage, but it's also quite humorous and entertaining, not to mention a surprisingly thought-provoking view of middle-age married people who take each other for granted.

I like Tururro as an actor and love the Coen Bros but sadly didnt really enjoy the film. Maybe worht a rental since I dont know who would love this, but it seems some people do. I respect the wau Turturro carried this film, so there is an audience. but theres also a lot who wont like it.

I absolutely loved this movie, so I would recommend it if you're a fan of the Coens. It's not perfectly made, and it's definitely up to individual tastes, but it's ridiculous, energetic, and fun. All the actors seem to be having fun with their work, and really, I *beep* loved this movie. Since that's all the OP was asking, yes, I would recommend it, but I also know that it's up to some seriously specific matters of taste, so I won't accept any blame for someone watching this and hating it. Also, it's nice to see that somebody's at least trying something almost completely different from anything else.

Just watched it and loved it. It may not be for everyone (evidently), but it has an audience that will absorb and love it. The quirky dialogue, unusual song choices, the wacky costumes, the unpredictability of it all. Some of the language is so over the top raw that it's simply delightful. Kate W as the trash mouth, nasty girl was great. And Gandolfini always makes me care. I certainly agree that everyone was having fun making this film. (It must be boring going back to mainstream H'wood fare after working in a movie like this.) More to say but keeping it short. I love you, John Turturro. Speaking of love.

reply

I presonaly love it but it's most definatly not for everyone if your open to language use and crudeness than its amazing you find the beauty of it after the crude (aka Kate) gets out of the life!!
and *Possible spiolers* I liked how Kitty did not just take him back its so realistic!!

Susan:I think I stay an actor b'cuz you can't get it right. So there is a challenge to it.

A trainwreck - an absolute vanity project for Turturro - he should stick to acting. He writes likea stoned freshmen in college obsessed with sex, diry sex, anal sex, any kind of sex. Some of the worst dailogue ever written. Gandolfini and Sarandon give their all but it is humiliatingly bad!

reply

It's worth watching. So much talent all in one film, and good dialogue. Pretty good music. Gandolfini - it's the REALLL Deal.

reply

Worth buying. This is the real ginger root; hot, wet and spicy.

I think, it's definetly worth to watch. The movie has a real realistis view on relations that has cheating in it. especially from women point of view. It is not a masterpiece but litttle more "worth to watch "

if you are seeing it for free then give it a shot, otherwise no.

This was a free download on BBC this week - great cast, I thought, and it looked interesting. Kate Winslet's attempt at a Northern England accent at the beginning though did not inspire confidence.

About 10 minutes in I thought WTF and gave up. The dialogue is too disconnected, the musical aspect was jarring and there were too many times in those few minutes when I didn't know what the heck was going on because sometimes you're not sure whether the characters were real or imaginary.

Plus, why is Susan Sarandon about 5 years older than her daughter??

reply

It's absolutely worth watching. It's not the BEST movie in the world, but I do think it's a little underrated. I liked it a lot more the second time around overall.

I saw it on Netflix, it was prettty good for about 80 minutes, very weird and bizarre but then the last 20 minutes were horribly boring and humorless. it was a neat idea, liked the singing along aspect of it. performances were great all around. but it loses steam after a while

there is a thin line between comedic art and circus clowning, they crossed it.

It's a musical written and directed by John Turturro, starring James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Christopher Walken and unfortunately a non singing Steve Buscemi (waste), in which Kate Winslet looks really hot and dirty talks loads, including even talking about anal! That last bit is my favourite thing about this film, but all of the above considered it is definitely worth watching. Kate Winslet has a great booty.
