Why is it rated R?

How extreme is the violence and language in the movie?

reply

I don't even remember there being any language in the film.

When the cop shows her pictures, they are pretty bloody. That might set it at PG-13 ... but again, I didn't see anything that would rate it at an R. Language is most definately not an R rating.

Numerous times we see blood, in her dream, in her illusions, we see it when characters are shot. I think the constant blood may have done it. There is no nudity but she is about to have sex in one scene. Um, besides that I'm not sure, no language that I recall.

Yeah the convenience store robber said *beep* twice during his robbery, and they showed his robbery twice, so 4 *beep* is more than enough for the mpaa to rate it R.

well it probably is rated MA (R in america, etc) is because of the violent scenes with the shooting, her in the bathroom with the earbud, etc. It was kinda cruesome for an M (Pg-13 in america, etc) and she did say *beep* a few times and so did a few other characters. Also, the overall death theme of the movie and the adult themes would have also influeneced the rating. So when all aspects are added together it probably does get an MA (R) rating.

I always find it so amazing how some films get rated ... while the language might qualify this one for an "R" (I don't think it should have though, the disturbing phots might have done it)... think of this: watch the film "Permanent Record" which was PG-13 and that one had the F-word FIVE TIMES in it, yet that didn't get an "R" !! That was 1988, but it seems that depending on the year and sometimes "tone" of the film, some films will get a rating that seems strange.

And "The Man" getting a PG-13 and they say the F word a lot.

Sixteen Candles is PG and that has nudity and swearing. That movie's also from a while back though.

I think it's interesting that it seems like everything was a little looser back then and like people were more lax about what people can and can't see when they're younger, but now that we seem more shielded and protected there's also more incidences of reported violence, etc. And the video games have gotten more violence and stuff. I don't know if anyone has played Shoot Out (I believe it's called) on Atari, but I was thinking the other night about that game compared to the stuff now that's not only three dimensional (lol), but so real like you're in the game.

Anyway though, I think that language is a larger part of the rating for the movie. Either that or nudity and "intense frightening images" or graphic violence. Or maybe the movie was rated before they finished cutting stuff out. I know that in the commentary or something on Clerks, Kevin Smith said that it was rated and they they added stuff in that aparently should have given it an NC-17 or or "for mature audiences" rating.

Check This Out...

This Film Is Not Yet Rated (1996)

It is a documentary about the American Rating System and how arbitrary it really is.

Two is enough for it to be "R" which is idiotic. There are movies out there PG or PG-13 that have extreme violence or nudity (non-sexual) and all but the "f---" word (except "motherf-----" and no "R". As long as the violence doesn't show blood, the nudity is non-sexual, and profanity isn't two uses of "f---" PG-13 or less.

I haven't seen this movie so I cannot tell you how much 'adult' content is in it. However, I think sometimes movies get an R-rating because they're for mature people. Not because of any sex or blood but because young people would find it boring and not have any interest in it. Just my opinion.

By the way, I was researching this movie and getting some views on it and that's how I found this message.

reply

I agree with you. I think that some movies are just for adults and that maybe seeing that a movie is PG-13 instead of R might turn some adults off from seeing it.

reply

because peopel responsible for rating it were stupid.
