Is this film a remake of...

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5 (The Dream Child)?

Ya, after all the complaints about Americans remaking Japanese films, I started watching American Horror, and started really appreciating Freddy Krueger (and he is awesome).

Anyways, as i watched the fifth one, I noticed a lot of similarities between it and Ju-On The Grudge 2 (even though Nightmare 5 came out years before).

Basic plot lines of

Nightmare 5: To come back to life, and kill more, Freddy Krueger wants to be reborn as the child of the last surviving girl of the kids he terrorized on Elm Street.

Ju-On The Grudge 2: To be reborn, and live again, the ghost in the haunted house wants to be reborn as a child.

O_o. So..umm...ya, for all those people whining about Americans not able to read subtitles, begging Hollywood to stop remaking films (even though it's less than 1% of what they make), can I ask the creators of "original work" to stop remaking Hollywood Films?

In this case no, you can't, for the simple reason that even if the basic outlines might appear to be the same, they aren't. That would be like saying Resident Evil is a remake of Day of the Living Dead.

To begin with, as much as I like the original Nightmare, Ju-On 2 is a MUCH better film than the first Nightmare and the fifth sequel (which to be honest sucks - and Ju-On 2 is only the second sequel).

So I will continue to ask Hollywood not to do remakes and continue to nag Americans about subtitles.

Ok, many things wrong with what you said, it's not basic outline, it's the entire film. The basic outline of any nightmare film is One Two Freddy's Coming For You.

Second off, if the only issue was subtitles, all foreign films would come to America dubbed! It works on TV, but people don't like it! It's not a subtitle issue, because that can be worked around. The idea that Americans don't like reading subtitles is as ignorant as any racist comment, and yes, America is not a race, but it is a discriminating line that is just as bad.

Oh, btw, before you nag on Americans, remember this, that music used in a lot of asian films isn't unique to Asia, it existed in America in the 50s (this is especially seen in Kairo). Not to mention, if we're going on differences, it can't be argued that American special effects are better, more modern. People in this country love incredible special effects, and music that isn't fifty years old (except the few people who listen to classic, but that classic is a LOT better than the music used in films, it is the exception).

If your want to stop Hollywood from making very poor remakes, I suggest you either form up a protest or crash a plane into the Hollywood sign.

Or simply have a group of followers just as dedicated as you are and mass suicide-bomb Hollywood.

Very poor remakes? Have you actually seen the films? And do you support Al Qaeda too?

reply

I have seen the remakes myself and compared to the originals, they are poorly made. Up to the point that the Grudge series was completely different to the originals and hardly called a remake.

And no, I don't support Al Qaeda. It was an idea of my own.
