Better than Ju-On the grudge 1?

Did anyone think this was better than the first one?

all i can say is that if this movie was better than the original then the original must have been LAME! thankfully the americans came to our rescue in round one and turned a pile of confusion into something with a story line! i can't wait to see the yank take on the grudge 2!!!!

Juon 2(2003) was way better than part 1. But part 1 was still good and it was better than the remake. I tend to like remakes more than the original, but The Grudge remake was pure crap. I don't blame Sarah Michelle Gellar for it sucking so bad, but she definitely didn't help. I'm not against CGI, but it definitely took the creepiness out of the movie. The original and part 2 were much more creepy. And as for the non-chronological(Forgive me, I need a thesaurus) storyline; I actually like figuring out the correct order in which the events occurred, and it made me pay closer attention to all the details. I felt like the American remake was dumbed down (sorry if that phrase doesn't makes sense). The movie seemed like it was made so simple and safe, and failed in comparison to the original. And as for the American sequel; I think I'll wait until it's out on DVD, and in the bargain bin priced at $1.99. Needless to say, I'm so excited, I just can't wait to see it...

It is anchor*man*, not anchor*lady*! And that is a scientific fact.

I like them both alot. But I'd say Ju-On the Grudge 1 is better...

Though, I haven't seen Ju-On The Curse 1 but I heard it's the best in the series

Wright, you must have no taste in horror movies If you think The Grudge is better than Ju-on. American remakes are not successful.

Also to the topic, I'd go with the original being better

reply

I thought the american remake was better, more real. Most people like the Japanese one's because its more underground, the under-dog, and everyone routes for the lesser, i.e. mac vs pc.

i personally like the re-make of the grudge better, it had much better pacing. but if i had to pick the BETTER film, the original...

and as for Ju-On 2......... it's better than them both combined

I Love You Goldie

I second his opinion. Only 2 isn't as good as both combined, it's the best one so far but not as good as both combined... yeah I'm just being picky...

Ju-On 2 is just so much better, the story is stronger more charachter developement, and they do a much better job at scaring people, even though it doesn't make much sense like the first one in some things, the director does an awesome job scaring you in different way's and styles in each different segment.

reply

It's nowhere near as good as the first one, I thought it really dragged until the end

yeh i agree the original is 10 times scarier and alot more entertaining.
also the american remake left out a few crucial bits, the same for the ring

reply

Weird, I thought Ju-On: The Grudge was far less scarier than Ju-On:The Grudge 2. I loved this one, and I thought Ju-On:The Grudge was OK.

This movie is nowhere near as good as the first Ju-on. I was bored the entire time, and not frightened once. The original (or original remake that is) is much, much scarier.

reply

i don't know what your all smoking but i see nothing but Creative Storytelling in the second one, it was just so much better Cinematogrophy Wise and even story.

The first one was nothing but overrated Typical Japanese ghosts... because there IS NO FRIGGIN STORY.

Ju-on 2 is just so much better in every single sense and creativeness and also makes alot more sense and has much better charachter developement.

I liked the Grudge 1 better.

I was a huge fan of the first Ju-On when it got released in the states, and I loved the American remake, although the Japanese film was superior.

I never sat through the two American sequels (I heard they were pretty bad, and I just didn't get into them when I tried), and I just had the chance to check this one out on Netflix.

I've only watched 30 minutes, but I have to say, the first Ju-On film (well, the first Ju-On: The Grudge, never seen the Curse films) was a lot better than this. I just can't get into this one- it lacks a lot of the subtlety, atmosphere and creep factor from the last film. The opening car-hitting-cat/little-boy/car-wreck sequence just wasn't scary, and the character development and whatnot just feels more phoned-in this time around. The "scares" come too fast and with no subtlety or buildup, leaving them feeling anti-climactic, and at times more funny than scary.

I'm going to finish it when I get a chance (had to stop because something came up), but the first half hour really suggests this one doesn't live up to the first at all. It's not terrible, but it felt like a big let-down for me.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?
