I never get the hate on this movie

Now before you jump me, I'm not defending it as a masterpiece. But I do enjoy it, and the vitriol against it is strange. People act like aliens are too "out there" as if Raiders is entirely based in realism. Plus, like it or not, many archaeological discoveries have alien-related theories.

You are not a fan of Indiana Jones, that's why you don't get it.
Otherwise, you would get it.

reply

Lmao, people like you are funny. You don't agree with my opinion, so it's your place as the ultimate Indy Maestro to officially read my mind, decide for me, and declare me not a fan. Yeah. Sure.

reply

Thanks, I also think I'm funny!

reply

It's funny. I find myself remember some scenes fondly. Maybe it's not all bad. So I revisit it. Nope, it's all horrible.

It is still the best Indy film for me, and I have grown up with them since the early 80's. This film has something very magical and special like most Disney films of the early 60's. it is about the exploration of consciousness which is still the theme of our times, it is definitely not some science fiction film, inter-dimensional beings exist for those of us who are visiting them in astral realms, it's just a fiction, like any other film.

It was the swinging monkeys that did it for me.

the only thing i remember groaning at was some sort of car chase with jeeps in a jungle , with all kinds of impossible stunts happening, and it looked like they were just going through the numbers trying to include things that had worked well in the other films.

so i'm gonna watch it again , and enjoy it dammit!

reply

I don't hate it, but all I really remember about it is that I saw it.

I've seen many movies just once yet can almost remember the whole film even years later. I honestly can say that I can't recall a single scene in this movie.

I do intend to watch it at least one more time. Maybe the second time will be better.

reply

I admit I liked it. It wasn't as good as Raiders and Last Crusade (I hate Temple of Doom) but I thought it was pretty good. I also liked him getting back together with Marion.

It has to do with the fact that many viewers fell in love with the first Indiana Jones films, and were disappointed to see their favorite archeologist looking old, the ridiculous blend of 1950s culture, the ludicrous survival of a nuclear test, having to deal with Soviets instead of Nazis, and supporting characters that were very forgettable.

I remember seeing an "honest" poster of this film, and the title read "Old and Tired," instead of its true title.
