Most disappointing "Blockbuster" ever?

For me it was..Yes, Phantom Menace was horrible but at least I simply hated it so bad I walked out at the 30 minute part and never finished it. A.I. certainly was god awful but the disappointment doesn't reach this Indy Jones 4 level.
In short, it seemed impossible to make an almost unwatchable Indy movie, but they somehow did just that.

reply

Try the 2018 Ghostbusters. Now THAT is unwatchable.

reply

I cannot argue with you about 2018 Ghostbusters..I didn't even try to watch it.

reply

Die Hard 4 was way worse than this.

reply

Yes it was very bad but expectations really wasn't very high..there were huge expectations for Star Bores Phantom and Indy 4

reply

But Phantom Menace is actually a great movie! Were expectations high for Indy 4? My little circle of friends thought for sure it would suck and it did. It had LaBeef in it for Christ's sake.

reply

I can't argue about Shita but everything about Indy 4 was a disaster. Silly plot, Bad Casting, Horrible CGI, Monkeys and Prairie Dogs for kiddies. Nuking the Fridge was the least of Indy 4's worries!

reply

I miss Bruhn. A lot of Indy 4 was on point. All the early scenes especially. This is good, great, you went too far. They did that again and again.

I agree, it was a let down.

I've seen it twice, once at the cinema and once on TV when I was sick. What I remember most is the silly fridge scene, the stupid "swinging monkey from the tree" scene and all that excessive talking (more like grumbled exposition) in the cave about those things.

reply

I saw this in South Korea..all the mothers brought their little kids to see this movie. They didn't care anything about the plot but they oohh'd and aahh'd when the prairie dog and monkees were displayed on the screen! I got firsthand knowledge on the movie business that day!

reply

That's essentially it. This one was a kids movie. A Disney version of Indiana Jones. Not as dark or scary as the rest, but it had Shia in it and some CGI animals, and Indy is a lot softer in his old age. The ants killed more people than he did.

" Phantom Menace was horrible but at least I simply hated it so bad I walked out at the 30 minute part"
so what did you do then?
get the bus home?
see a different film?
Were you in the cinema alone or with friends? Did you force them to leave too?
I've never understood the practicalities of "walking out"
Nobody who watches enough movies to post on movie boards has time too valuable to not see the 2nd half of a film.
Especially the most anticipated film of all time: the first sequel in 20 years to the holy trilogy

reply

Unfortunately, I went to the Waikiki theater twice and walked out both times. I really wanted to like it but once it got to the point the princess was talking to so and so I just realized my youth was gone. Several years later my friend FORCED me to go see The Revenge of the Sith and he got really mad at me for falling asleep. I never finished POTM and I think I saw Yoda throw something in AOTC and I don't remember anything about ROTS except some guy riding a lizard like creature for 10 seconds and somebody falling into the lava at the end.

reply

I have simlar memories , didnt walk out , but had a few goes at ep1 - good saber battle when that good guy dies , pod race , jaja.
ep2 - saw it once: memories zero , oh , maybe some cgi soldiers in a green field.
ep3: less than you - lava , but no lizard ...

none of that in cinema, all on dvd. I thought if ever there was a time for a worldwide simultaneoius release of a movie it was Phantom Menace, but no , we in europe had to wait, and were pissed off. I'd have gone to the cinema , but instead we watched dodgy pirate versions on fledgling pc formats like divx.

reply

No.

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is MUCH worse!

And probably had much higher expectations going in, there was only one Indy film at that point and everyone liked it so very very much.

reply

We all see things differently, but I'm surprised at the battles on movie boards between Temple and Last Crusade. People argue between the two like they're arguing politics, sports, or religion.

I enjoyed Temple even though it wasn't nearly as good as Raiders in my opinion, but it was still a better movie than most working the same area. Being a sequel, I was not expecting it to be as good as the first.

To me, Crusade actually improved Temple in my eyes. Crusade was as good as Raiders to me and showed me that quality characters, story, production etc. was still possible, so perhaps I judged Temple too harshly.

I still place Temple third but consider the Indiana Jones films a trilogy.

Still, I have no hate for Skull and am not sorry they made it because it has its fans.

reply

This sort of opinion is purely subjective, but I find every single fucking frame of "Temple of Doom" irritating, while to me "Crystal Skull" is more dull than offensive.

I really like " Last Crusade", but everyone does.

reply

Solo.
Justice League.
Phantom Menace.
Batman V Superman

All easily worse than this.
