One of the best?

For all the portuguese out there, is this the best movie ever made in our country? (I think so)

reply

Its a great movie, but I think that there are even better portuguese movies, although it really is a good movie

reply

Não!!! I enjoyed this movie very much but it is far from beeing one of the best portuguese movies.

reply

This movie was great. I never new portuguese people could make good movies. Does anyone know of other good portuguese movies.

It's the best Portuguese film I've ever watched, along with "Alice" by Marco Martins.

Funny thing is, I'd say the worst thing about it is actually Joaquim de Almeida, who is a Hollywood actor. He's not terrible, but I think Nicolau Breyner and Rui Unas stole the show.

The way of the future. The way of the future... The way of the future.

My favourite portuguese movie so far. Nicolau Breyner as his best!

reply

One of the best, if not THE best.

reply

O Sr. Nicolau Breyner merecia um OSCAR pela sua prestação neste filme.
Recordo a fantástica cena em qu ele entra no gabinete e grita:
"Tá tudo preso seus cabrões!"
Majestoso!

E sim, é sem dúvida o melhor filme Português até agora.

Cumprimentos,
O Cinéfilo de Marinhais.

Personally i think it's one of the best portuguese movies.

I wouldn't say it's the best, specially becasue of old portuguese movies, such as Leão da Estrela and Costa do Castelo.

But int the type of movie, it's defintely one of the best movies i've seen.

Joaquim de ALmeida makes a good job, but i agree that Nicolau Breyner and Rui Unas steal the show. But i think the best part it's actually the storyline and the script, that's where we are usually not good.

Personaly, my favorite portuguese movie is "Lugar do Morto", it's simply a briliant film!

"os Imortais" is good, but it feels like it has some lose ends, and Nicolau steals the show to much...but it's probably the best portuguese film in the last few years! (althoug I also enjoyed allot "O Delfim").

reply

The thing is that "Os Imortais" is probably one of the best mainstream movies made in Portugal. Most portuguese cinema has been more of the Art House genre. One can't just compare this movie to anything made by Manoel de Oliveira, César Monteiro, Teresa Villaverde, etc, because it's all about different conceptions of film making, right? I won't compare a Ridley Scott movie with a Ingmar Bergman one, and I both love "Alien" and the "Seventh Seal".

"O Milagre segundo Salomé" was also great. It was released more or less at the same time as "Os Imortais".

reply

"Está tudo preso, seus cabrões!"

Brilliant! LOL
