the ending

I liked this movie a lot, but I missed the ending. Normally, I don't ask how it ended, but where I live, it's difficult to see brasilian movies. It will probably never be broadcast again. Also, the movie is not on dvd yet. So, could anyone tell me how it ended? I've seen that they are thinking about killing her father and I've seen that Feitosa died when he jumped from the bridge.
Thanks!

I have the exact same problem! Did you see it on NPS last friday? Anyway, I want to know what happened too.

they did kill the dad (after some slight problems), and went to Rio. over there they all (Silvia, André, Morrines, Carrosso) meet up with silvia's real dad. this is no coincidence because apparantly silvia wrote to him, depicting out who she is, what has happened and the best of all: the fact that she tried to hook up with andré, through trapping him into her shop, making him follow her, etc. a happy and surprising end.

Thank you very much.

Ja, op Nederland 3, omdat het Cannes-journaal uitliep.

Not entirely sure you're right that Paulo is meant to be her real dad - Sílvia would like to think of him as her real dad, and she certainly says that "Antunes is not my father" - but I think that is just metaphorical. I don't think we can be sure that Antunes is NOT her real dad.

I was surfing around IMDB some month ago and searched for actors and actresses born on the same day and year as I. There where just a few and Luana Piovani playing Marinês in this movie was one. Since the story seemed nice i thought i might buy it. That showed up to be a bit more difficult. Actually the only place (on the Internet) I found selling it was www.dvdbrazil.com. So i bought it from there (even thou the shipping cost was slightly more than the movie cost. Sweden is a long way from Brazil :).

Just recently watched it and thought the beginning was quite a bit like "Amelie from Montmartre". The english subtitles is a bit fast to disappear so I had to be pretty concentrated reading them.

But now you know where to buy it if you want to.

reply

Thanks! The beginning reminded me of Amelie too!

you know, interesting bringing up this thing about Amelie, but you should know that director Jorge Furtado is well known in Brazil not only for his 3 features - the others are 2002's HOUVE UMA VEZ DOIS VEROES - and 2005's MEU TIO MATOU UM CARA (My Uncle Killed Some Guy) - but also (and especially) by his short film ILHA DAS FLORES (1989), which, legend has it, Jeunet saw it and admires it. FLORES is the most successful Brazilian short of all time, it won three truckloads of awards internationally and it is basically about the life of a tomato, but so much more. I am sure it should be available somewhere on the internet, try www.portacurtas.com.br, though I am not sure it is subtitled in English. They also offer a biscuit like streaming image, and the rhythm of the voice over should make reading subtitles a very small nightmare. Anyway, at least you can speculate where the Amelie thing came from. Kleber, Recife, Brazil

Well, indeed, it reminded me of Amelie too, with the one difference that this time I really loved the characters, while Amelie only managed to annoy me. This hero, though, is so lovable in his shyness, who wouldn't forgive him anything?
