Why did Marinês need to do that transaction? *Spoilers*

First let me say that the actress that played Marinês is about twice as hot as she needed to be to make her relationship with Cardoso believable. They were really feeding men's fantasies putting her in that role!

My question is, why did they need her to collect the lotto money when Cardoso was never seen doing the robbery. It would have been safer not bringing in a third party and it would have made her attraction to Cardoso a little more believable if she hadn't been in on the prize money.

My friend,

I guess it was because they wanted to play with the fact that hot girls like welth rich men ! So, Cardozo was a thiny poor guy, with dreams about Marinês ! She dreams about rich men, like all hot girls in and out Brazil ! What's better to conquer besides going to collect the lottery pot, millions of reais (brazilian money), with Marinês herself.

Well, that's my point. He would have been wealthier and she would have been as poor as ever if he collected the money himself. I think he needed all the advantage he could get to win her affection!

I also thought about it, but then I remembered Cardoso was seen at the bus in a very suspicious beahvior with André, remember?

reply

I thought it was pretty funny, the way they decided it had to be someone that wouldn't screw him, precisely the point that she made quite clear earlier on (albeit in a different context).

kelton,

First, have you ever been in Porto Alegre in Brazil? There are so many gorgeous women there, that they become quite common. The south part of Brazil has some of the most beautiful women in the country (e.g. Giselle Bundchen was born there). Then, it is not unusual that you see guys like Cardoso get the oportunity to talk to them and date them, even though, of course, it's not always that they get anything (as it is the case in this movie).

About your question. Would you ever trust Cardoso all that money?! Andre is too wise to not trust him. Even though Cardoso is a nice guy, since the first time they met, it is easy to see that he is not someone to trust, because he can always leave with the money all for himself (that's just the reality in this movie, quite nobody is trustworth here, not even Andre, although he's the main character). We have to remember that, in the end, these guys don't have any high moral codes.

The reason that Marines has to do the transaction is that Andre was just witnessed as a back robber and Cardoso also might have been seen at the scene of the crime. Not to mention that they bought the ticket with counterfeit money. The more people not connected to the crime that are involved makes it a lot safer.

The more people not connected to the crime that are involved makes it a lot safer, is very flawed reasoning. What stops her from selling them to the police after all she played no part in the robbery and escaping with the lottery money?

The real reason was mentioned a few posts ago, it was about trust. Cardozo and Andre trusted each other but not when it came to money. Andre knew and trusted Marines more than Cardozo. Nothing more. She would be less likely to abscond with the money than Cardozo. In reality the less people who know about a crime the better. It's human nature to babble and more people knowing about something increases the likelihood of being caught. It was a matter of trust but then again, what do I know?
