Why did this film change genre?!!

Don't you hate it when films suddenly change tone and genre half way through?! The Man Who Copied starts out as a sweet unfolding love story...and by the end is stuffed with crime, murder and fraud....WHY DO DIRECTORS DO THIS :( Thought i'd share my review below.
