This must be a GREAT movie. I can't wait to see it. It also received 2 thumbs up from Ebert and Roper.

There are SO many glowing reviews. It's just hard for the word to get out to large amounts of people because there is so little advertising. Hopefully, once BAADASSSSS! opens in a lot more cities, we'll start seeing TV ads and billboards.

In St. Louis, the movie ran for only one freakin' week before being pulled, with no advance notice, before I could see it. Considering the great reviews, you'd think it could generate some good word of mouth, but I doubt it will be given the chance in a lot of places. I almost never post to these boards, but I just needed to express my disappointment somewhere...

Hey D-wind,

I'm so sorry you missed the movie. Yeah, it's pretty depressing that theatres aren't letting it run longer. It's because the studio never promised to do a big ad campaign. I'm hoping it will get more buzz in other urban cities where it may run longer.

Well, I'm sure you can sign up on Amazon.com for them to let you know when you can buy it from them.

SGG~ I'm so sorry you didn't get to see it. It's going to continue to have short runs throughout the summer, in additional theatres.

It actually played longer than a week in LA, but it was at different theatres. It opened at about 4 theatres to start, including some of the Laemmle's in LA. But, the one theatre that is in West Hollywood, where most of the showbiz people would have gone, was NOT posted on the Sony BAADASSSSS! website. That was a BIG mistake. Then, it closed at a few of the LA theatres and opened at a few others. This made it hard for people to find it.

There's still a chance that Sony Pictures Classics will do a wider release later on, either in late summer or fall. Or maybe just for Oscar consideration. Yet, the studio is probably more interested in DVD sales.

I want to see this movie really bad. I just got the original Sweet Sweetback's Baaaadassss Song on DVD not too long ago. It's only playing at one theater in my area. It's really far away but I will try to get out there and see it one of these days................

He's not black............He's a negro.

This is exactly what happened to the movie that this movie is about, only not quite so bad, or so good either, because there's not going to be the buzz Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song eventually got, I don't think.

Well, looks like I missed the theatrical release but I just read over at ign.com that the movie will be release on DVD, Sept. 14th. I'm definitely gonna buy it...................
