Wow! This film was nominated for, ZERO, 'count 'em', ZERO, Oscars!!!!!!!

Last year, Hotel Rwanda, Baaaadassss!, and Ray were easily three of the five best films released, meanwhile, the whoafully overrated and overproduced "The Aviator" scored ELEVEN oscar nominations, the rehash of Hilary Swank's performance in BOYS DON'T CRY (a much superior film to 'Baby') in "Million Dollar Baby" wins both best actress and best picture, and Hotel Rwanda (the real BEST FILM of 2004) can't even snag a BEST PICTURE nom.

And you guys have the audacity to say with a straight face that race has nothing to do with it. That "racism" is no longer a problem in America. No, it's just shifted from picket signs and "in-your-face" hatred to CORPORATE, POLITICAL, and MEDIA bigotry that's a lot more COWARDLY and CYNICAL than the 60s "I-don't-like-you-and-I'll-show-it" attitude ever was. At least they were committed, honest, and bold about the way they felt. This is just sad. Sad, sad, sad. Somebody outta stop it.

You all sound so stupid, yelling as if RACISM was some disease that AMERICAN scientists found the cure for some hundred years ago after the CIVIL WAR ended or something. No, racism, is a LEARNED BEHAVIOR. Thought from FATHER to SON and from MOTHER to DAUGHTER, and the CLASS IS STILL IN SESSION IN AMERICA. Which IMDB is just a small, albeit a decent, MICROCOSM of the existence of this class. The civil rights MOVEMENT, that's right, just the movement started just in the 1960s, that's not even 50 years ago. And strides are still being made today to fight the, um, DISEASE?!?!?! ALL IN LINE FOR A SLICE OF DEVIL'S PIE! I'm sorry Mr. Bush and his FOLLOWERS, I'm already full off soul food.

P.S - It was better that M$Baby and so was BOYS DON'T CRY. Point: M$B is an overrated piece of cinema. WHOAFULLY SO!

Dude, you're going a long way over the top with these racism posts. Ray and Hotel Rwanda got a lot of recognition. Jamie Foxx got the oscar.

There were a lot of independant films that were head and shoulders above Aviator, Baadasss included, but they don't get oscars because that's not how Holywood works. Oscars go the the big studios who pay for them.

George bush likes Condalisa Rice.... I think... But back to the movie. This movie didn't get enough publicity probably. I imagine half of the acadamey thought Badassss was some kind of porno.

I saw this film in the theaters and liked it enough that I purchased the DVD. I felt that Peebles may get a nomination for best screenplay since he had been around for so long and had with this work had gained a measure of respect that he never had before. That is the only nomination I could have possibly seen this movie getting.

It really is a shame this was ignored. It is great and truthful film-making.

Sony Classic did not promote this film like they have done for other films that made it big coming from them. For one, they put Baadasssss in a 99.9% white area where I went to see the film. I was lucky to see it because the following week they pulled the film. It only grossed $ 365,727.00 over all, at the widest theater release of only 41. That's bad. Sony knew what they were doing. If you are a studio and you want a director to look bad, put their films in a place where no one will watch it. It will look like the film did badly when in fact, the movie was excellent, but poorly marketed. That's how they did Spike Lee's, She Hate Me.

Back in the 70s, when a black movie came out, they would put it in all the communities, so the movie made it's money back plus some. And people took note of the film. That is why it pays not to have your indie film distributed by some sub-studios but instead, distribute it yourself. Take it on tour and show your movie in an areas where you know your target audience. Trust me, Mario would have made more by doing it this way. It takes longer but you will see the results.
