I saw the movie this past weekend. It was fabulous. I knew it was gonna be great. I think every young black director should OWN this movie.
On to what I really wanted to discuss....Karimah Westbrook. OMG she can dance for me anyday. She was the black hippie dancing at the party. I checked out her website(Karimah.com). I can't wait to see her again.
Also, does anyone know if the original Sweetback is worth buying?

I'd say any young director, whatever their color, should see this movie. It's a great look at the industry of the time. And the industry hasn't changed all that much in 30 years. And it's an inspirational look at what hard work and crazy drive can get you.

And yes, Karimah Westbrook is beautiful. I have to agree fully with you there.

Speaking as a white man, I love movies like this that kick ass and are from a perspective of a man who has lived his life being a different "race" than me. It helps me to better understand the brilliance in cultures I may not be as exposed to as others, and makes me more capable of seeing the point of view of someone else who is in the same shoes (in this case, a very talented black man's shoes). on facebook one of my favorite friends to talk to is a brilliant young latino director and he and I can spend hours bouncing ideas off one another. the respect and intelligence level we both share means that we learn something every time we talk. Cesar Vargas, you are the man!

She's only hot to you because she's naked. She wasn't pretty and she was trashy. Nia was the goddess and didn't have to shed her clothes!
