Why is everyone already judging this movie?

I can't believe it! This movie hasn't even premiered yet and people are already saying that it's bad! I, for one, am excited to see this movie, as I love all the Vacation movies. But people, you have to give it a chance before you start judging it. Yeah, I know, Chevy Chase won't be in it. But that doesn't mean it won't be funny. Randy Quaid is hillarious as Cousin Eddie, and I'm sure that this movie won't be nearly as bad if you just give it a chance first.

After this movie has aired, criticize it all you want, I won't care. But just give it a chance first before you do so.

Thank you, Finally someone has said something positive. I totally agree. People can get very anal about sequals and what more judgemental. I love the Eddie character and am excited that they are at least bringing him back into a movie that focuses more on his character. I am confident that this movie will be entertaining and at least appeal to some people with an open mind. Not everyone is going to ever agree that this is either good nor bad. There will always be critics. I will most likely record this movie because I have a feeling already that it will be worth watching again.

Danny boy, 2 words that aren't Merry Christmas: Eat Crow. Why do we rip into movies like this before they debut? Because we can foresee the agony that awaits us.

If you had faith in the movie, frankly your a moron. It's not's the fact that it's a sequel that made people knew it would suck, it's the fact that National Lampoon TV movies are amongst the worst films ever made. And why Lampoon, known mainly for their R-rated films, makes TV movies that end up somewhere between G & PG, is beyond me.

The only interest in the film was the fact that it had the original Eddie & Catherine, and finally, Dana Barron returned as Audrey. Which why Barron wasn't used in the other films is a mystery as she really doesn't even look 25 yet. She looks almost exactly the same as she did in 1983 (unlike Hall). But sure enough, someone thought Eddie acting over-the-top stupid would be funny. Ya know, when it comes to a dumb klutz comedy, I think Chevy Chase may actually be the only one who can do it. People bash him for it, but damn does his stuff come off as gold compared to other actors.

Also, they killed the Eddie character. They gave him a job, made him have an IQ of 4 (it was at least 60 in the other films, lol), and due to TV, had to cut back his swearing. The only good thing they kept was his outfits, and he at least drinks beer. After 10 minutes passed I was about to riot not seeing Eddie drinking beer, but sure enough, they finally gave him his beer. And god does Eddie need Clark to follow around instead of being on his own. God, I think I'll go watch Vegas Vacation to wash this filth of Christmas Vacation 2 off. If that film had anything good going for it, it's definately Quaid and Chase's scenes together. Whoever thought we'd find ourselves begging Chevy Chase to come back?

Well DAN52 tell me that you take it all back...Anyone who prejudged the movie did a bloody good job of warning the rest of us about a movie so bad that even my 6 yr old could have written a funnier story........
This is a disgrace to the series........

reply

Funny you should say that your 6 year old could have wrote a better story than that StevieA.
My nephew said that he could have made a better storyline and script after we watched it and I remarked that a 6 year old could have thought up better gags.

I was thinking positive before this movie aired that it might be really funny though as it turned out it seemed to be weak in dialoge and cartoonish.

I beleive most people who spoke negatively about it before it even aired last week knew that it being a tv movie could never be all that great. So with that in mind it was already predicted to be a disaster. The writing was terrible. The characters were wasted by a weak script and a poor storyline. It should not even be compared to the theatrical releases of the series because it was a tv movie and the network thought it would appeal to a family audience?
Who really knows? I admit it was so bad I could hardly pay attention to it at times as it dragged along very slowly. If they ever come out with a National Lampoon's Vacation DVD box set of the entire series they should leave this one out. I do not think the acting or the actors were at fault here, except for maybe agreeing to do this film despite it had a horrible script??? The real blame goes to the writers, director and network for dishing out such a crappy imitation. Whomever pitched this to NBC and whomever ok'd it must have been hitting the crack pipe hard at the time!

It is insulting that this network would assume that all their viewers are morons and would actually be entertained by this. What if?.....Had this been properly written and directed by (i.e. John Hughes) or someone who was involved in the orignial Christmas Vacation movie in addition to be structured for a theatrical release it might have worked? Of course there would have to be a totally different storyline.

Bottom line is this was really lame and there is no doubt that many of us here that was let down by this tv movie could have thought up a funnier screenplay. If you like tv movies like "Return to Gilligans Island" or any of the other tv shows or movies that they have tried to make into a nostalgic tv special, you might then like this? It seems that most of the people who are now posting on here have a sincere passion for the originals and are venting their anger here are really warranted for their disgust.

NBC sucks! If they a smart they will sell this to another network just to ditch any assosiation with it. National Lampoon should be dropped from the title especially. They should show it to War prisoners like "Saddam Hussain" over and over because it would a extreme form of torture to have to view this more than once. Sorry....That is just my opinion".

i agree with you 100%

Take what back? I never said this would be a good movie. I simply said that it didn't seem right that people were considering it a bad movie before they even saw it. Yes, I will admit now, it didn't ring up there with the others in the series. But I never said it would be good, and I certainly don't take back anything I said.

And if you paid attention in my original post, I said once this movie aired, I wouldn't care what anyone said about this movie as long as they gave it a chance before they judged it. So, I don't care!

Ok, I'm going to sound stupid here... is it out yet, and has been aired and I've missed it (PLEASE, LET THIS NOT BE SO!) or is it still in production and whatnot? I haven't seen any release dates or ANYTHING, and I'm desperate. I'm an Eric Idle fan (who's met him) and I don't care if he's in this film for another cameo- I want to see this film! So if anyone could provide any information at all, it'd be MUCH appreciated, thanks so much!!

Sincerely,

Diane

Okay, 11 years after this thread was started and yes the movie was as awful as everyone thought it would be. It's in the why was this ever made category.

I never caught the premiere. I don't think I even knew about this until I found cheap DVD copies for sale at a video store. I eventually bought one. I really enjoyed this film. It didn't need to be titled CHRISTMAS VACATION 2, or necessarily involve Christmas at all, but I tend to watch it now and then. Watched it recently due to it being December.
