A sequel to a sequel?

Since the original Christmas Vacation movie was a sequel in itself, does Christmas Vacation 2 qualify as the only sequel of a sequel ever made??

I think this is technically a spinoff of a sequel, which is still kind of weird in itself.

The Cousin Eddie character also appear in the first movie and Vegas Vacation. So, it's basically spin off of those movies too!

Don't forget DAY OF THE DEAD 2: CONTAGIUM. The original DAY is a sequel to George Romero's original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

But anyway, I'd say more spinoff to a sequel also, just called CHRISTMAS VACATION 2 for marketing reasons. It is more gripping than simply "COUSIN EDDIE'S ISLAND VACATION."

Honestly I look at the vacation series as a franchise...mainly I don't feel like any of them are really sequels at least not now, I could see when the second one was coming out it being referred to as a sequel but now a days there are so many NL movies and even just the ones with Chevy don't feel like a true sequel, possibly because the kids always change, and non of the story really carries on TOO much

Now that I think about it, that may just be me, but I just can't say that I've ever felt like any were sequels, maybe because they can be watched in any order

I'm with you on that @ehbunner, I never thought of any of the vacation movies as being sequels, although technically they are sequels; there's no way to really fight that. They definitely fit the definition of a sequel, but for some reason they don't feel like 'sequels.' They feel like a series. It's strange because if you look at the 'Harry Potter' movies, I consider those sequels....yet they are all part of the 'Harry Potter' Series. They are all continuing the same story. I guess it is because like you said in your post, they use different actors for some of the roles, like their daughter and son. But still, they have the same names and are playing the same characters....so why do they not feel like sequels??

I tend to agree that the Vacation movies aren't necessarily sequels. If you notice,in none of the movies are there references to what went on in the other movies. For example,in Christmas Vacation there's no even hint of the Griswalds ever going to Europe,or Wally World, and vice versa, and if you notice,in some, Rusty seems older than Audrey, like in Vacation, and to a greater extent,in European Vacation, while in Christmas Vacation,Audrey seems older than Rusty. Maybe that was unintentional, that was just because of how old the actors playing those roles were in real life, but I can see what you guys are saying about these Vacation movies being more series movies that aren't sequels to each other.

There was indeed a hint of Wally World in Christmas Vacation. Watch again and see what Clark and Cousin Eddie are drinking eggnog out of.

you know what would be ideal, if they made a real sequel to "national lampoon's christmas vacation" with clark and ellen in the main roles having the kids over to the house for christmas. after the sequel, remake or what the heck that 2014 vacation movie was this is no longer the worst one, though the special effects in this looks like one of those afternoon programmes on children tv channels. apparently they got some actors to return for this one though, like the original audrey and veteran actor ed asner. to think chevy chase and eric idle was toying around with the idea having another vacation movie in the 1980s where they would travel to australia, i read that was considered, something to think about as you watch this.
