We're definitely on the same page with this, Mm13 tr! I have long fantasized about a live action Wolf's Rain as well as a live action Cowboy Bebop.
1) Yes, I think it could, IF they stuck to the storyline very closely.
2)I would like to see them delve deeper into ALL the charachters pasts...maybe via flashbacks. I know we saw some of this in the anime, but, I don't know..just..more.
3)As with a CB live action movie, it would have to be a completely no-name cast. I would want to believe the charachters WERE Kiba, Darcia, Tsume, Cheza, etc. I would NOT want to see >insert big A-list star here< playing Toboe, Hige, Blue, etc.
If they can do live action movies based on comics, video games and childrens cartoons, then why not anime? Of course with this being Hollywood and all, they could have a propensity to screw it up royally. But done by the right people, it would be AWESOME!
The problem of adapting a series into a movie is that a movie does not leave as much time for character development. With 26 episodes you understood almost every main character in Wolf's Rain. With a 2 hour movie you will be hard pressed to fit even half a series into it.
If you wanted to make a series of movies that would be fine but you have to make sure that it will be finacially successful.
Also I'm afraid that Hollywood would FIUBAR and make it with almost no similarities to the original except for name only.
I guess not even the names would be safe in Hollywood! Haha n_n
Well, I do agree that there wouldn´t be much character development, yet, maybe that´s why a series or anime is different from a movie. Also, hopefully, a movie would make people actually watch it and therefore know the original story. I think it happens everytime we see a movie: if we like it, we research it (or maybe that´s just me n_ñ)
About the cast, I think it could mix well-known actors and also amateurs. What´s more important is that they can actually make you feel like they ARE the characters. They must have both physical and psycological similarities with them so that the story is true to them. Sometimes film adaptations change the spirit of the characters, and fans almost always feel dissapointed about it.
What worries me is that, maybe, being such a wierd and unusual storyline people won´t get attracted to it because it doesn´t involve giant robots, silly hot girls,... and all those commun stereotypes.
Unfortunately i dont think a live action version of this could ever work. so many of the beloved shows and books i loved have been insulted by horrible interpretations done by hollywood. and i dont have anything against hollywood, i just wish they wouldnt turn so many shows and books into live action movies, as they are nowadays. however, even if this were made into a live action movie in another country, not influenced at all by hollywood, i do not think it could ever have the same intensity as the show. reasons could be having to pack all of the episodes into a movie, but most of all the use of CGI. the characters could never have the same endearing expressions that they did on the show if they were created with CGI. dont get me wrong, computers have enabled movies to do amazing things, but a little goes a long way, and movies use too much of it now. bottom line, i think a live action movie would be a great insult to this amazing series.
I agree, but also disagree. Take Narnia for example, they were able to capture expressions and faces quite well on lots of the CGI characters. I think the CGI for this series though would have to keep to the original "style" of the wolves in some aspects. The face would still need the rounded head and small muzzles...etc
even though i don't think wolf's rain was meant to be filmable, i think these actors would be good for the parts of their characters if ever there was a live action movie:
kiba - justin chatwin or joseph gordon levitt hige - jamie bell or anton yelchin tsume - sam worthington, garrett hedlund, or scott porter blue - camilla belle, olivia wilde, michelle borth, odette yustman, or zooey deschanel cher - rachel nichols hubb - alessandro nivola or patrick wilson quent - ray winstone, liam nesson, or brian cox darcia - luke goss or christian bale hamona/jagura - sienna guillory (maybe)
I have to agree with all 3 of those! Just Chatwin would pull off Kiba very well. He just has this total "I don't care" and "leave me alone" type look to him. And Hige is one of those boys you think of as your best bud or brother which Jamie Bell would do well with. He'd have to put on a bit of weight though. Not sue who Michelle Borth is, but she sure looks like Blue
