Is it available in english?

I have seen episodes in Japanese with english subtitles, but can you purchase the dvd set dubbed over in english? if so, where? thanks! :)

reply

Yes, you can. Ebay is most likely to have what you are looking for...although Amazon may have them as well. These are not "official" DVD's, mind you(read: most likely bootlegs). They are english dubbed with English and Chinese subtitles. Not sure about quality..although I've heard some are actually just as good as the original.

but if it is a bootleg does that mean that they weren't professionally dubbed over in english? or were they actually shown on tv in english but just never came out on dvd?

reply

I'm pretty sure there was an actual official English dub...the voice actor for Darcia is Steve Blum, who has done voice overs for just about every anime out there. It's just that the official dubbed DVD sets have become extinct..leaving the ones that are pressed in Hong Kong and other places. Who knows...they maybe legitimate, but something tells me they're not.

Even if they are not, I don't think the quality is any different than an official one. More likely that just the menu setup maybe a little different. Another thing that make me think they are not official is because they are fairly cheap, Japanese DVDs and CD's are notorious for being outrageously expensive. If you decide that you want the dubbed version, buy from an Ebay seller with good feedback, you'll most likely end up satisfied.

But on the subject of Dub vs Sub, I fall firmly on the side of Dub. I like being able to just watch without having to try to read subtitles at the same time. The Wolf's Rain Sub is actually one of the harder animes out there. With the bad Japanese to English translation, it's hard to figure out what the characters actually mean when they speak. So yeah...I don't think you fully get the WR story without watching the Dubbed version.

I know just a few months back I saw the full dubbed collection in the box set at a Best Buy. Best Buy's Web site lists the price for the entire series at $129.99. I just checked to see if they still have it. It's listed under "Wolf's Rain: Limited Complete Collection" and includes all seven of the DVDs, which were originally released one by one. There are a few independent sellers who sell through Amazon that have it for a bit cheaper though. Unless you go with an independent seller, Amazon's price is the same as Best Buy's. Hope this helps!

Yeah, I thought the Japenese version was better. At first I wasn't too happy about watching it in Japanese, but I watched it on Youtube when it was up at the time and most of the episodes were in Japanese, and it grew on me.

Gah!A bug! *stomps on black button*

Um... I bought both seasons at Best Buy for $50. They were only 24.99 for Complete Collection 1 and 2 individually.

Yeah I only bought it cause it had wolves on it, not knowing I would find one of the best animes EVER!

Yeah it is. I bought the complete series (along with soundtrack) for like 60 or 70 bucks. It has the original Japanese, and the option of English dubbing. Amazing quality too. Bought it from Best Buy. :)

lol. I just bought 6 DVDs (up to 26 eps) at Value Village for $24 today... plus there was this Wolf Rain's OVA in Japanese but I didn't buy that one.

Off topic but I also saw some FMA and Inuyasha dvds there too.
