What ended the show?

Other then low ratings, I can see a few reasons why it would go down, Tarzan is great in the 1930's film but who can watch a series where our hero doesn't speak alot, he runs around bare-footed in NY? I definately wished that Jane wasn't made into a cop, a scientist would have been better then a cop. I also wished that it was kept in Africa, at least for a few seasons then have Tarzan come into the civilazation.

I can think of a few reasons
- It was about Jane more than Tarzan, Travis wasn't given much to do
- It went too slowly. Jane and Tarzan could have hooked up from episodes 4-6 but definitely by episode 7. It was dragged on so artificially we didn't even get a kiss.
- The adaptation of Jane as a cop was weird and she became a generic TV cop rather than Jane Porter for most of the run. Disney's Jane remains the gold standard there.
- The show only ever felt like Tarzan in episode 7 when they were stuck in the wilderness. They could have gotten away with an entire season on the run in the forests if they had wanted. Tarzan came into his own, he seemed like a man in control and not a confused boy.

They couldnt have done this show set in Africa, it would have cost too much but perhaps making Jane a zoologist would have worked better and given her a unique voice.

That is kind of what I thought, I also felt that it wouldn't be so exciting having an episode where Tarzan and Jane deal with a different case while at the same time Tarzan is being hounded by his rich-obsessed uncle.

I wish they done it in a set that resembled Africa but maybe the madness going on there was too much to be over looked.

In no particular order:

1) Bad title for the series (many people thought this was to be a show about the oldskool period type Tarzan, so there was little interest both in media and in potential viewers). They should have named it Greystoke.

2) Very inadequate and little promotion.

3) Way too much focus and emphasis on Jane and cop life rather than Tarzan and his family.

4) Tarzan/Jane interactions were phenomenal, but it went too slowly and there were few scenes on the two - much more on Jane instead.

Now the focus first of all should have been on Tarzan and his family - his aunt and uncle fighting over guardianship of him and the family empire which ended up being only a tiny part of it. It was mentioned that Tarzan was going to be more 'civilized' into the role of Greystoke heir, which was supposed to be part of his journey. But we didn't get enough time to really begin that. That would have been interesting - all of the family dynamics along with Tarzan/Jane dynamic. Unfortunately all the focus on Jane with the cop element really ruined things. The new show Beauty & the Beast is going the same way and I'm pretty sure it will tank the show. It's not looking good already.

I am with you on everything you said about Tarzan, I think it focused more on Jane as a cop and all. Would have loved to see John adapt to life in the city a little bit and conquor his uncle.

I saw the pilot episode to that BATB show, it was like watching Smallville without Clark Kent zooming in and zooming out (loved there was no Chloe though) and once again KK didn't scream in terror in the beginning of her "attack". Really the show sucks and I hope it does get cancelled, I will continue seeing it maybe till I see Ron Perlman and Linda Hamiltion appear on it (love those two! Don't wanna brag but I met Linda at a convention this passed summer).

Yeah, that is what was intended to happen. But they just took too long to even start to hint in that direction with Tarzan. And by that point, the cop stories/emphasis on Jane, and lack of promotion had killed it. Shame. It could have been really great. Afterwards the creator acted like it was the worst embarrassment ever to mention it again, when it was partly his fault with poor decisions that it failed to begin with.

B&TB with KK is horrendous. She is not overly bad as the lead, but nearly every other element is terrible. I agree about reminding me of SV a bit - and not in a good way.

(Btw, awesome that you met LH. Loved her from Terminator & B&B. She is a cool person.)

I heard the Tarzan movie has the guy who played Emmet from the Twilight movies and Jane will be an environmentist activist or something like that. I just wanted a full adapatation of the book.

My opinion might not hold much weight since I'm hardpressed to explore the series beyond the first episode and here's why:

o1. The whole episode they keep telling him he has to go back to his uncle and the law is on his uncle's side. Am I mistaken or is he not grown? And doesn't he have rights since is/seems to be of legal consent age in the series? That really bothered me.

o2. Love at first sight. So Disney-sweet ( and I loooooooooove Disney-sweet) but somehow it just didn't work for me.

o3. And it's been said time and again, Jane as a cop... wuuuuuut. Her character could have been so much deeper than that. NY is such a melting pot, with people there for so many reason. I mean she could have been a student who had previously been studying in Africa and it would have explained Tarzan's infatuation a bit more as well. She could have been a freaking boring-lifed zoo worker for all I care but a cop? Really?

And this is just from the first episode. Maybe I'll watch more and be bothered by it but Travis is so adorable and I like seeing him in something different than that too sexy, sneaky-smiled Ragnar. <----None of that is a bad thing. XD The man is delicious eye candy and the only thing that didn't bother me about the episode was that he didn't talk much. I think he pulls it off.

I like the idea of Jane being a student studying in Africa. I wish the show had a small amount of chance.

I'm sure it'll come around again, hopefully they snoop around these boards and learn from the complaints.
