The Dub Version

I was a big fan of the show still am I agree that the dubbed was rappy but it was done by 4Kids Tv of course it is gonna be crappy but If someone else made the dub with some of the English dubbed cast they could have put the stuff in that they took out from the Japanese version but

Eng Dub

Yoh's Voice-Male

Jap Dub

Yoh's Voice-Female

I liked the voices in the dubbed but could have been Licenced by someone eles like the people who mad the FullMetal Alchemist dub.

4kids entertainment English dubs suck PERIOD. English dubs would be a LOT better if they were/are dubbbed (and left unedited) like "FullMetal Alchemist" & "Samurai Champloo"

I agree. I love the Japanese verison. When I heard the voice for characters such as Anna and Ren...I was horrfied. They made Ren a whiny British brat! ANd do not get me started on the names.

I haven't seen the dub, but I think the show would have a serious void for me without Ryu and the "BESTAPRACE". The kids dub probably says something that would totally rob its essence like "cool hangout".

Sacred Hang, actually! Which kinda has a nice ring to it in my opinion, better even, at least for an American audience!! I'm actually a big fan of the dub version, and if is wasn't for that, I wouldn't even know about Shaman King. I just finished watching the Japanese ones, and like that too, but I'm still a fan of the dubbed version. Some of the name changes relate better with the American audience, and giving Ryu a Hispanic accent, and Ren the British accent just seems to fit somehow. And who in their right mind believes that Ryu is only 17, I mean jeesh, he is drawn looking in his thirties! Just becuz the change a few things, doesn’t mean its automatically bad! Remember, they don't really do these dubbed animes for the fans of the Japanese version, but for those who are exposed to it for the first time!

4Kids have a habit of butchering anime to better suit American kids. However, if you watch other animes like on Adult Swim, they actually stay better to the story and voice and such. And just buying things off the self, they are a lot better at keeping it as close to the Japanese as possible could.

It all depends on how die-hard you are and which one you are die-hard to. Personally, I hate the dubbed. Pure and simple. Not only butchering names and voice but the story plot as well. They omit stuff and add other things that Jap fans come to love about the anime. Case in point, Yoh did not want to be a rock star...he just wanted to have an easy life. The X-laws for one was a highly religious group and murdered for the sake of their mission. That was actually a very important thing and I highly doubt tha added it in. That the big pev many have with this dubbed version. They simply take away from the anime.

i actually really liked the dub, some of the name changes like hao - zeke or horohoro to "trey racer" were a little painful to hear but overall i thought the dub was kickass. come on ryu's accent was hilarious and a lot of the cool jokes were in the dub that werent in japanese version. like that line about the oracle bells "we used to use actual wind spirits to announce the fights, but now we're wireless" it was just so random yet considering the context of the show it was classic

I have to admit, this was 4Kids' best dub, but I still wish that Funimation had gotten it first.

I'm a Rumrunner, and proud of it!

i like the dub version very much.
it was a reason why i first started to watch it.
at first the tv was just playing and i didnt pay much attention but then i heard lyserg sayin 'yo' all the time and then i thought 'wtf?? what stupid anime, i have to watch it again' and the next day i watched the next episode and it was so awesome.
actually a few months before that i saw it dubbed my friend forced me to watch it o jap. and i fell asleep -.- .
