Was Lindsay suppose to be Australian?

Or was that Portia de Rossi's accent just coming through? Most Aussie actors can hide their accents in most productions, but for some reason, it was easy to notice on Lindsay.

On another note, I never realized that was Ellen's wife.

Her accent only slipped through a couple of times and it wasn't too severe.

I personally never noticed Portia's native Australian accent coming through, and I've watched and rewatched every episode more times than I can count. To me, Lindsay is always that self-absorbed Southern California girl. Portia doesn't usually get the praise that the male actors do, but I can think of quite a few hilarious Lindsay moments.

That's Portia's accent. Although it wasn't really that noticeable to me. For the most part, I thought she did a great job.

Like Chris Hemsworth? Thor doesn't sound Aussie at all...

Probably because she wasn't Ellen's wife when the show started!

I notice it constantly. And I had no idea that Portia was Australian, so it was confusing. It's especially apparent when she says the word "anything".

I'm not hating, I love the character and think Portia is a decent actress. Accents can be tough for some actors.

oh! she's australian.... I did not know that! I had just assumed Lindsay's occasionally quirky elocution was part of de Rossi's portrayal of the character's speech impediment due to the constant substance abuse.
