Were Maxie and Mildred lovers?

They seemed to have more than just a professional relationship, and Mildred acted like Maxie's sidekick. The two-shot of them at the dig, when we first meet Maxie, seemed to be a pretty good indicator. Also the wine-pouring shot when they were having dinner with Leaphorn, Chee and Randolph.
