when will it be in IMDB TOP 250
I've been waiting for this movie to get in the IMDB TOP250 since long. How many more votes does it need. There are no hindi movies there & I believe this is the best contender for it. VOTE FOR IT ppl.
shareWont make it. Just not enough votes. It needs probably atleast 5000, and might have done with a proper fairly wide release, but just not enough people saw it.

been watching the top 250 - there r movies with 2000 odd votes there. lagaan has 2000+ votes but the score's not that great - i believe this movie deserves to be there.

IMDB top 250 is just a reflection of the taste of IMDB users only. I find many of the top 250 movies crap. Swades is far better than many of them. Lagaan is decent but don't think it deserve to be in the list.
One more thing is that for the rating of top250 movies, rating from only the "regular" voters is considered.

What is a "regular" voter? Ive voted for over 400 movies the past 12 months since I created my account. Am I a regualr voter? with over 1 vote per day?
shareThere are times when many new accounts are opened just for sake of boosting the rating of a particular movie after which the accounts are never used. Votes from such accounts are not considered. For example, Black has more than the minimum required votes(1250), but still it isn't in the top 250(rightly so).
Anyway, the IMDB top250 list is not the ultimate yardstick to measure the quality of a movie as the american influence on the list is quite predominant.
Here's the formula used for top250 rating:
The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:
weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C
where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 1250)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.8)
for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered
thanks sumeet, good info. from u. i just hope this will soon get 1250 votes (current minimum) n get into the imdb-250. Also this is my choice for the oscars this year. Black is not an Indian story - its got more international flavour. Mangal Pandey can be considered but for the Item numbers. Page-3 is also good but not a positive ending. I think swades stands the best chance of winning among these - any more movies coming to anybody's mind ?

no indian films are in the top 250 because not enough IMDB users see the films. Its not discrimination, just the way it is. Also most indian films are worth seeing. Although this film is pretty good, maybe around the 200 region. Lagaan I dont think deserves to be in there.

Hilary Duff sux. She wears black on TRL, when she crtisized Amy Lee for the same thing!
German, French, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese....all are there.
My rough estimate says that the mean vote for a movie should be 8.8 when it reaches the 1250 mark to make it to the top250 list. Right now the mean is 8.6 for Swades(with 743 odd votes)

The minimum number of votes a movie needs to be on the IMDB top 250 is 1,250 but most have alot more than that.
shareWhy do you care? No one in the US will watch it. We loved it, so it will be within top 10 in our heart. Also, most people outside the subcontinent won't relate to this movie. Even people already living there won't relate to it. The movie can be realized best when you're so far away from your long forgotten home.
shareNo photos of the movie or from the premier night. Few photos if any of the cast. Many Indian movies I surch for on IMDB hardly have comments about them. Indians just don't put enough effort into IMDB that's why we don't get much back from it. A typical Indian attitude is to take that which is free but not to give for free. The attitude is not good for building an online community. If Indian IMDB users make more of an effort Indian films may become more widely recognised.
