Gowariker succeeds but Akhtar fails.

The follow ups to the makers of the films that completely breaths new life into the dreaded Indian Cinema aren't perfect but one of them leaves a mark.Ashutosh Gowarikers SWADES was an interesting and focused if not flawed film. But it succeeds in conveying its message.Whereas Farhan Akhtars Follow up LAKSHYA is a ginourmous disappointment. It's a terrible film all the way, especially towards the end.I really liked Dil CHahta Hai as the best film alonside LAgaan from Bollywood. But his next film was just god awful and I can pretty much expect the same from DON.But Gowariker makes a smart move by making a less commercial and more concentrated film. And even it isn't devoid of its major flaws ,SWADES still is among the best films of Bollywood. But,films like these are extremely limited in the terrible industry of Bollywood.Which if people try ,they can churn up great films like Lagaan but they have to think conventional. So,just hope they grow up and give us more of these films to be internationally appreciated.

Well u cant compare the two.

Lagaan was not ashutosh gowarikar's first movie. He earlier did - pehla nasha - starring deepak tijori & raveena tandon. Then he made baazi with amir & mamta kulkarni. So Ashutosh was already two movie old when he was making lagaan. Add to this many movies as supporting cast & asst. director.

Farhan's first movie DCH needed to have a fresh look. Lakshya was an extension of the "coming of age" genre which i think would have done well with a little more crisper editing ( which i feel also about swades).

Anyways both are talented directors and know how to tell a story.

I think Lakshya is much maligned but is not a bad film. The second half showing the coming of age and stepping into responsibility is done quite well. But It does not compare to Swades in any way. Swades was simply brilliant IMO.
