Am I the only one who found it hilarious when SRK and the other NASA engineers talked in technical terms...None of the stuff made any sense. It's like they came up with a list of mathematical words and put them all together..for example, what the heck is a longitudinal parobola? Why can't indian movies go the extra step and do some actual research into their character's profession? This just insults indian audiences. Jeez, especially the indians here in the US..aren't half the NASA engineers indian?

any thoughts?

Well I think they did do the research because the project they were talking about is an acual NASA project, apparently to be launched in 2010 or something like that.

I know that doesnt mean much, but I'm kind of thinking that if they were bothered to llok up the project, then they probably would have found out what its about too.

Well Ashutosh was damn on target in swades withhis researches. Nasa will launch project GPM in june 2007. Longitudnal parabola makes sense to me if one is talking about earth and it`s rotation. The problem with Nasa shots was that the actors were just standing the whole way. There should be a pile of papers and things like that.

It also didn't help to have all the NASA scientists speaking in English accents, did it.

No, they probably dubbed in the British voices during post-production because Indian films almost never use synchronized sound--Lagaan being the only exception in the last 30 years because of Aamir Khan's insistence. Peace.

And the first one is...? K3G and DDLJ are as far as my Bollywood acronyms go.... ;) Besides, I actually saw them shooting KANK in Grand Central Station and in Bryant park here in New York, and there was no sound crew anywhere to be found on the set! So how can this possibly be synchronized sound?! Peace.

Kal Ho Naa Ho - the bonus DVD talks of the problems with the NYC sounds and doing sync sound. I am pretty sure it was ditto for KANK.

I have the KHNH DVD 'cause I'm a New Yorker. That was dubbed in the studio. There is no proper ambient sound as the characters speak, and there are some sync problems. Because of this, it has that goldfish-in-its-bowl feeling. Peace.

KHNH - bonus features clearly talk about the difficulties with SYNC sound in the film. You think they lied? It is more likely that parts of it had to be dubbed - rest was sync. Same was true for B and P - most of it was sync but a scene on a balcony outside had to be dubbed...

Point taken; I have yet to watch the special features. Still, seeing my own NY neighborhood in a Bollywood film was a trip! Peace.

It was not at all convincing.The NASA scenes,except for the last one,the launch,were laughable and didn't look real at all.They were just a bunch of people around the NASA headquarters and speaking gibberish which tricks the audience into believe,WOW,look at that ,he's working in NASA etc.But the good thing was that it was short.It didn't last too long when it came to talk about science or NASA.THat's the worst part about Bollywood,they do not research or put no effort on making everything convincing or real,often concerning the actors accents.If a guy has spent years in a western country,he should be able to develop that same accent.That was one of the many flaws of this film,it wasn't perfect at all and could've been a lot better.Needed to be trimmed a little and executed well.Otherwise it was a good movie.

I would suggest mingling with the engineer types in Silicon valley to see how many years it takes to get rid of an accent!

That was the only point wasn't it, that he was an engineer at NASA? I mean it wasn't like he was going into geosync orbit or something. The lingo was fine.

Usually if a person goes to live in another country when they are already adult,their accent never disappears completely. And it is said, if a person learns a new language after the age of 12, they can never speak it like a native speaker, I guess the same goes with the accent.

true to that...myself...my accent is changed after 3 years overseas but my dad's accent is still intact...

and GPM project is totally genuine and in the movie they talked like they should...he is the project manager of a satellite mission...seriously if he doesnot talk about that stuff...

what did you expect him to talk about...should he talk about in hindi to the americans about earth??...that would be such a bollywood cliche as in other bollywood movies foreigners learn hindi miraculously in a week or wateva like that...

and watch the making...they did their homework...ashutosh gowariker did his homework...everything in the movie was true...there is nothing in this movie to pick on...no negative points...except people's arrogance towards it
