Why deny?

I am intrigued as to the motivation of some one who would deny the Holocaust.

I wonder why anyone would choose this course.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

reply

im sure there must be hundreds of papers written about this?

i think it is so that they don't feel guilty about their own actions or in-actions.

humans also like to feel that the world is just / has justice (which also explains "blaming the victim" type mentality).

they maybe also don't want to pay compensation to holocaust victims.

reply

That's fine applying to people who were involved, they don't want to admit to a crime.

I'm more interested in the attitude of people who weren't there, but somehow feel it necessary to ignore or avoid all the obvious evidence that these disgraceful events did indeed occur.

"What's truth got to do with it?"
"What's truth got to do with anything?"

I believe that many Holocaust deniers know very well what happened, and that they approve of it, but put on a public face of denial to spare their beloved Third Reich from any guilt. Then there are the naive, and the gullible, who buy into the discredited "evidence" the deniers present. Some deniers are mere contrarians, who feel superior going against the grain, and having an opinion outside the mainstream. Others are just plain old anti semites, who's hatred will not allow them to believe anything that would evoke sympathy towards the objects of their disdain.
I knew someone personally who is so enamored of the military of Nazi Germany, it's rituals, uniforms, etc, that he refuses to believe they could have had a part in anything so terrible.
It's a very complex issue. There are as many reasons for the deluded to deny history as there are stars in the sky. But most often it boils down to ignorance and hate.

reply

It's very stupid, idiotic, ignorant and childish to deny a historical event that obviously happened.
It's like saying, 9/11 never happened.

However, I can agree with people not wanting to compensate the Jewish.
They've already been far over-compensated, and it's not like they were the only nation that suffered like this in history. They're just one of many, so why should we care about only them?

I have nothing against Jewish people, but it makes me sick that they still talk about it so much, and we can see a new Holocaust film every year.
But when have seen movies about other genocides / cruelties leading to death of millions? Almost never.
There are at least 3 times more Holocaust movies than movies about other similar events added together.

reply

first of all "compensate the jewish" jews are not part of a race, it is a religion, jews were persecuted during the holocaust from all different walks of life and culture.

Over compensated? Nothing compares to the fact that the third reich almost completely exterminted the entire jewish population of the world. There are currently only 14 million jews in the WORLD, not in europe, the americas, africa...THE WORLD. The third reich killed many generations of jews. And not to mention the jews have been persecuted throughout history because of ignorance.

Why should you care? Because people died. Never forget.

It makes you sick that they still talk about it? If one of your parents god forbid died, would the other spouse not talk about it and remember what a good person he/she was. When something so atrocious happens, it is important to educate and not forget and to not let history repeat itself. The fact that you are somewhat complaining that it is talked about to much is at the appropriate level of knowledge.

"we can see a new holocaust film every year?" how many world war II movies are made, how many war movies in general? Holocaust Movies/Documentaries have become a genre of their own. Its hollywood, its how the world works. its not like the whole jewish population is pooling money and seeing profit. Its entertainment for some, education for others.

"But when have seen movies about other genocides / cruelties leading to death of millions? Almost Never." what does that have to do with jews in general, its not the jewish populations fault that there aren't more movies about Darfur.

"There are at least 3 times more Holocaust movies than movies about other similar events added together."

so?

I have said my 2 cents, before posting arbitrary comments somewhere that are completely uneducated. THINK. educate yourself.

reply

You are either completely ignorant or Jewish (or most likely, both).

It doesn't matter that they are a race or religion... they are a group of people.
And yes, they are a race, because being Jewish isn't a chosen thing, it comes with your birth.

"Nothing compares to the fact that the third reich almost completely exterminted the entire jewish population of the world. There are currently only 14 million jews in the WORLD"

Most nations in the EU have a smaller population than 14 million. So "almost completely exterminated" is a huge exaggeration, considering that 6 million Jews were killed between 1939 and 1945, and that's not even the half of the entire population.

And yes, 6 million is an awfully lot of people. But just because of this, we shouldn't compensate them this much. No other nations get any kind of compensation, no matter how many millions of their people were killed in wars, genocides, etc.

And yes, we should hear about Holocaust for education and the other reasons you mentioned. But it's not the only thing like this that people should know about. I wonder how many people in the US even know how many non-Jewish people were killed during and after WW2. At least 10 times more than Jews.

And it's hilarious that you tell me to educate myself, after I was "5" in History in high school each year and I wrote a nearly perfect History final exam.
