DVD

Have there been a DVD release with english subtitles for this movie? If not, does anyone know when it will be released on DVD?

reply

The movie just started in the cinemas today so you have to wait a little bit more. I'm sure that there will be a DVD release soon maybe in summer or fall of 2005.

reply

I haven't been able to find this film with a release to cinema. I'm sure it's only in selected theaters. Do you know of a website where it lists the showings for this movie?

reply

Yes. If you go to the website for the film itself, there is a place where you put in the city where you want to see it and it will show you which theaters in that area that will show the film and when. There is no date scheduled yet for DVD release.

To update and expand on my post of a month ago, I add this.

The official website for Fateless is:

www.thinkfilm.com

The site shows all the films currently in release. Fateless has a spot on the front page. Click on that and there's a band across the middle of the page that says: theaters and showtimes. If you click on that, you will get a window that lists the theaters showing this film across the country, state by state.

It was suppesed to be in 2 theaters in the Chicago area last weekend, so I waited patiently. But it still isn't here. I re-checked the site today and now it says it won't be in Chicago for another 2 weeks (3-17). Frustrating. I really want to see this film. It may get bumped again, who knows?

Chicago usually is a good place to see even out of the way films. There are almost always 2 or 3 theaters that will show even the most esoteric things. I don't know why this one is encountering obstacles getting into a theater here. The film has been in nationewide release since the end of Jan. I don't know what the hold-up is getting it into a major metropolis like Chicago. Oh well. I've waited this long, I guess I can wait a little longer.

This movie's premiere will be on 10th of February at the Hungarian Film Festival, in Budapest. The real movie start is on the 12th of Feb In Hungary. So don't want to find it is not on yet.

reply

The premiere was yesterday (08 February) and it's on the cinemas in Hungray from 10 February because the new films are always realised on Thursday. I've already read some comments and they are not too good. But of course I'd like to see it myself.

reply

I've seen the movie yesterday.
Ok, it is not a perfect movie - and it's not your tipycal Holocaust-story. Adapting the novel seemed impossible, but Kertész & Koltai did a good job.

The film has many touching moments, most notably the always-amazing Endre Harkányi. Marci Nagy was a great choice for the lead role.

Sorstalanság will be a huge success. Hopefully not only in Hungary.

reply

And it´s been shown on the Berlin Film Festival on februar,15th in the competition.

Ne keressetek a konyvet a filmben! Ket teljesen kulonbozo dologrol van szo. Ahany ember olvassa a konyvet, annyi fele keppen latja maga elott.

reply

that's exactly what I hate in so-called adaptations. either stick to the book, or make a different movie with a different title. even if Kertész himself wrote the screenplay, it shouldn't use the name Fateless if it's different.

Does anybody knows about an anamorphic transfer of this movie regardless which region is?

I just rented it, but the copy is not anamorphic, the pq quality suffers a lot and the subtitles are almost impossible to see when the DVD is upscaled.
