An Odd (ish) Question

I've read the most recent translation of the book (loved it) but have been unable to see the movie. However, I know Daniel Craig was in it and I was wondering what he does. Do he and the main character have a scene together? Do they communicate? And if they do, how? Does Craig suddenly speak Hungarian? Or does the boy suddenly speak English? I'm rather confused.

Any answers would be appreciated.

Was that realistic? I know people who were teenagers in Western Europa in the Second World War, and they still don't speak any English (maybe only a few words), because in those days learning French and German was considered more important. This kid didn't seem to have learned that much German, how it could be that he can still do a fluent conversation in English (keep in mind that he hasn't had any practice all that time)

Europeans are NNOT like Americans. Europeans are cultured, open minded, and multilingual -- again , unlike Americans. This applies to WWII also. In Europe, AND IN THE middle east children learn many languages at once. IT IS ONLY in AMERICA that learning another language becomes a joke.
