how about you ???

"it is all a film. it is all a construction. but even so it hurts"

reply

A fabulously intelligent film unfortunately marred by the use of pre-existing music. Turning something original towards the hackneyed, particularly using the Barber - tired old piece that it is, belonging in the concert hall and abused already by so many musically illiterate film directors and choreographers. (Anyone remember Platoon?)
Original ideas crave their own space and sonic environment. A pity because so much is so good about this film. Any chance of a remix?

i agree that "adagio for strings" is overused, as i hear it in many movies and television shows. but, the first time i heard Barber's piece was in "the Elephant Man", where i feel it was used to wonderful effect.

reply

yes, then it was used on Platoon.

BUT, do you remember the main sentence of the movie, the one that contexts the whole movie? "It's all film," says August at the end. "It's all construction. But even so, it hurts."

maybe he was trying to let us know it was A FILM.

tho, I've seen movies with "what a wonderful world" playing... and for me it is 12 monkeys. Didn't happened here, i even laughed, i found it kind of a joke, but didn't *beep* the movie up, i liked it. I took it that way I said.

Barber's Adagio is way overused. There are other string pieces out there that have the same if not more dramatic effect and have never been put on the screen. I couldn't name any because I'm rusty when it comes to classical.
